The beer itself is orangy in appearance and giving off some interesting aromas of pink grapefruit, lemon, and spice. It has quite a fizzy mouthfeel and a bracing citrusy bite. The flavors are of various citrus fruit, yeast, and spices like coriander, pepper, and others. Quite complex, and perhaps more like a wit in flavor than a hefeweizen. There was no banana or clove that I could detect. Still, quite a nice beer. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 1, 2004 One of the finest bottles currently on God’s Green Earth, a unique shape and utterly cool cartoony owl staring at you from the silkscreened label. 24.3oz.
Appearance: clear, pale yellow, with a huge, fluming, bubbly whitish head.
Aroma: everything a weizen ought to be, fresh, lively, spicy, and full of citrus, lemon, orange, a bit floral, and a touch of straw.
On the palate: we get some tasty wheaten texture, but not too much, very minimal. Body is light, hops and malt are downplayed. Finish is swift, but nice. A good weizen, nothing great, but you’ve got to applaud Kiuchi for upturning stereotypes and proving, if it needed be, that Japan can turn out fine examples of the world’s classic styles.

Orange zest, tangerine, vanilla, faint clove and soft fruitiness and maltiness in the aroma.
Unusual for the style, but different and a very good example Light bodied. Molden fruitiness of light clove, lemon, orange and banana. Minor spicing. True to the Bavarian style in many ways.
I’d love to visit Kiuchi some day. First the excellent celebration, now this, this is a great brewery. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA

Smelled like a typical wheat beer, but slightly less concentrated.
Poured a hazy yellow. Very cloudy. Man this stuff is unique. Nothing tatstes like this. Yeasty aged fruit flavors. Almondy, vanillla, curaco flavors. Clean crips finish. Outstanding mouthfeel.
This is by far one of the most complex and unusual wheat beers I have ever tasted. I can only assume bad samples or extremely biased personal preference for the low scores because this stands out as an exceptional example of the style to me. mohawksin (187), Nebraska, USA
| 0.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 3/5 | 1/10 | 1/5 | 1/20 | Jul 25, 2004 Paid 8.99 for 24.3 oz. Turned out to be a rip off. Popped the top on this one and skunkiness was so strong. Poured into a glass, nice head, orange color, still skunky smelling. Took a hesitant drink, horrible. All I could taste was sourness. I tried to force myself to finish, but could not. SG (456), San Clemente, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 10, 2004 A nice little hefe with minor spicy and fruity notes throughout. I’ll take this over a lot of beers on a hot, sunny day. A little too costly for the quality though. BeerLimey (1873), California, USA

Malty, grainy aroma with a notes of vanilla, bubble gum and cloves. Sweet honey palate, grainy, sweet throughout with a touch of cereal dryness towards the end.
