Hitachino Nest Weizen

My first dissapointing beer from this brewery. Poured copper with a quickly dissapating head and tons of black floaties sinking to the bottom. Is this stuff supposed to be sour? Very light banana and clove with weak wheat taste. Maybe it was bad but at $3.00 a 12 oz, I’m not going back anytime soon.

Okay, I tried a Hefe from Russia; so I figured what the heck, try one from Japan, big mistake! The beer looks good enough, hazy golden hue with fluffy white head and good lace. The aroma has notes of lemon, wheat and grain, biscuity malts, and some honey. No banana or real yeasty character found in this beer, this is also the case with the taste. I got sweet and fruity flavors with spice and some subdued acidic finish. The mouthfeel is almost sticky, which is very strange for the style, metallic feel upon the finish. This is not a good representation of the style, avoid.

I am a masochist. My second beer from this brewer and it also sucks. Pours with a nice medium, white head. It is a deep gold with lots of bubbles. It has a sickly sweet aroma, like watermellon gum. The taste is bubblegum, but not sweet. The flavor is dominated by tobacco, and a really sour note. May have been a bad bottle and half went down the sink. Very overpriced.

Clear golden lively body. The head is a fomay white pillow. The aroma is wheat with hints of esthers. The flavor contains much more esthery banana then the aroma, in fact this is the dominant flavor with wheat playing second fiddle with some other floral flavors in the backup band. The body is nice and very drinkable. Better than I had expected.

A bubbly golden color with a thining but constant head. Aroma is a decent malt to it, but nothing substantial. Flavor is sweet but with a back of spice to it. The palate is a bit sticky but semi thin.

Aroma is slighlty sweet, slightly sour, light and crisp, fruity, wtih apples, apricot notable, hints of honey. Cloudy light orange color with minimal thin white head. Flavor is lightly sweet, fruity (oranges), a bit of yeastyness, slightly dry. Palate is a little watery. An interesting brew, the aroma is definitely the high point.

Golden hazy beer with very little aroma. There is none of the spices or bananas expected in a Weizen. Rather acidic mouthfeel and not much body.

Golden amber color with a tip of head and light lacing. The aroma is metallic and lightly tart with some starchy sour wheat and the obligitory banana/clove once it warms up. Artificially sweet with a poor balance with some tart wheat, tastes infected, very earthy and tangy. This was interesting.
