Malt, lemon, brown sugar, hints of banana and clove (clove like flavors?). Citrusy aftertaste. Mellows nicely as it warm to a very nice finish. All told, a very good beer. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 2, 2008 Sampled from a 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy vibrant golden color with a large soapy white head that lingered forever and produced nice lacing. The aroma was a wonderfully enticing mix of tart, tangy citrus, sugar and jelly. The flavor was tart, lemony and sugary with a lightly yeasty undertone. The middle was tart and bitter yet subtly sweet. The finish was long tart and fruity. Complex, almost mead like. It really reminded me more of a Belgian golden ale rather than a German hefeweizen. Lovely. KyotoLefty (1491), Kyoto, Japan

Bananas and cloves, rich and slightly cake-like. Cloudy golden color with a too big head. Sweet, rich, banana flavor. Thick palate. A bit cloying. Sweet, spicy, and rich. Good, but a bit too much.
Bottle, 2008: 6/4/6/4/13 Bright gold color, a touch of orange. Pretty cloudy, foamy white head, though I had to work to get it. Moderate aroma or yeast and wheat. Some bananas; a touch of cloves or other spices. Not as fragrant as I am used to in the style. Slightly sour wheat flavor. Some hoppy bitterness in the back as well. not a lot of character. A bit of spice and a touch of fruit, but not really all that complex. More hops than usual for the style, I think. Not as good as their belgian White Ale, I’m afraid. astrofrk (219), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Clean, floral finish. Almost German. Did someone from Japan hook this one up from thier WWII allies? We knew back then the Germans beat us in the beer war but Japan? bhensonb (4378), Woodland, California, USA

Hazy golden color with a frothy 2-finger white head. Spicy clove aroma. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is clove and citrus over wheat. Quite stunning. So much so that the banana can be overlooked - seems present though. Finish is clove in the mouth with some citrus bitter/sour around the tongue edges. Lots of flavor in this one. djones (119), Michigan, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 18, 2008 Bottle into Weizen glass. Pours hazy pale yellow with a big, fluffy white head. Nose is faint banana, clove, and sweet lemony citrus. Taste is sharp and citrusy up front, just short of being tart. Sweet, crisp wheat combines with the citrus to define the front end, and the finish is clean, sweet, with just a hint of banana, and a very light, clean, spicy bitterness on the palate. Wonderful beer, highly under-rated. Perfect summer refreshment.
