| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 5, 2009 bottled, in japan. hazy light brown with a lingering beige head. massive aroma of nutmeg with some coriander and clove, warming rummy quality with lots of earthy spicy dubbel flavours, especially nutmeg, blood, toffee, traces of burnt hay and a slight suggestion of sake in the aftertaste. a really complex and extremely delicious beer, which i’m surprised to see hasn’t been rated higher jrob21 (1275), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 8/20 | Jan 5, 2009 What a super gusher. Never had one quite like that. Color is thick deep red. Decent lacing with an aroma that reminds me a bit of sake. Could be from the aging. Flavor is a little Pungent. Some oak and nut. Big sweet finish with red fruit hiding in the taste. The off flavor is a little like alcohol, band aids, tape, licking an envelope. Not good. Not something I would go back to. smith4498 (921), Miami, Florida, USA

Flavor is bready malt with some earthiness, mustiness and wood notes. Medium body with soft carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. Better than I was expecting. sebletitje (1995), Tampa, Florida, USA

Hitachino keeps on surprising me with their original approach to beer making.
The aroma has some good and subtle notes of oak and barrel, light hops with an almost white grape nose, yeasty reminiscent of the sweetness of sake wine.
Taste, smooth, yeasty with good amount of the oak and cask, white grape giving a fruity sour mouthfeel leaving tingling feel on palate.
Overall mouthfeel and finish is thick.and smooth. fidel (1011), Livermore, California, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 3, 2009 Shared with Fidel. Pours cloudy caramel brown with a three finger tan head that diminishes quickly. Really interesting nose of spice, yeast and oak. The flavor goes a bit medicine like, with yeast and spice still quite strong. Just a bit different, as is most of their beers. This one isn’t a favorite. kramer (2510), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 2, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear amber body with a two finger foamy beige head that left plenty of lacing. The nose is very spicy with some sweet caramel malt and tropical fruits. The flavor is similar to the nose, lots and lots of spices, but not backed up by a whole lot. Finishes with some peppery spice and fruits. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slight stickiness and moderate fizzy carbonation. This was quite an unusual beer, with so much spiciness in it, it reminded me of a Christmas beer. I can’t really say that I got any sake character from this, but then again, I’ve had less than a dozen examples. JaBier (1261), Capital City, Ohio, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 27, 2008 Bottle at Winking Lizard Crosswoods location. Pours, after it gushes, a deep orange color with a medium white head. Strange fruity aroma with lots of malt and yeast. Equally strange fruit flavor with lots of yeast and a somewhat hoppy finish. A truly odd beer, but I do not hate it.
