Oct 23, 2008 Bottle stamped XH8,6. 11.2 fl oz bottle purchased at Lukas Liquors in Kansas City, Missouri. Pour is cloudy ruby orange with a nice full one inch tan head. Sticky lacing left behind. Aroma of oaky sake woodiness, grainy maltiness - bright and somewhat boozy nose. Taste is the oak, sake and malt in that iorder. The aftertaste features a sharpness, that isn’t alcohol, but is bright like that. Also very dry finish. Palate is medium-full, very strong beer all around. The wood and sake notes were probably a bit too much for me.

Oct 21, 2008 12oz bottle. Dark amber with a frothy head. Sweet candied fruit in the aroma with caramelized sugar and tons of booze. All I have to say about the flavor is…What an odd creation they have made here. Any sweetness that might have been present in the initial brew is overwhelmed by booze and TONS of wood. There are hints of what used to be something like candy/fruit notes or even sweetness but that is gone now, just a ghost. Medium body, semi-dry with an even drier finish. Interesting experiment (though I’d not have this again).

Oct 19, 2008 Bottle at Hamiltons. Pours with an amber body topped by a medium thick head with a good amount of lacing. It’s slightly sour yet sweet with a touch of funk. Light bodied, smooth and a touch dry.

Oct 15, 2008 Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a tan head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes fo caramel as well as lighter notes of soap and rice. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel, wood, and alcohol, the latter leaves a slightl burn in the throat. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Oct 12, 2008 Bottle from South Bay drugs. Pours a cloudy rusted brown color, small off white ring for a head. Nose of oak, brett, farmhouse funk. Not quite what I was expecting from this beer, pretty good none the less.

Oct 8, 2008 11.2oz bottle: pours a hazy dark brown with slow fading off white head, aroma of bananas sweet spices and a hint of malt, this cant be from japan! flavor didnt hold up as well as i thought it wouldsome of the banana and spices carried through but this beer lacks a much needed body and the spices are a little over powering and the banana is almost not even in the taste. this beer was has a lot going for it with some malt body could be one of my favorite but none the less a great beer from japan and a hell of a lot better then what i expected from a asian country. well done.
