Commercial Description:
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

Pours a clear brown with a toasted yellow head. Smells of smoke, light ham, caramel, yeast dough and bavarian hops. Flavor is mild, but with strong hops and grain background. Really good drinking beer, excellent with a meal.

Beer 54 Summer 2006 trip in Europe. Drank on 7/10/06. Liter draft mug at Hofbrau House Munich. Very good and smooth and easy to drink, went well with the giant pretzel I ate with it. Yum.

Aroma is nutty with a bit of cabbage. It pours brown with a medium light tan head and minimal lacing. Flavor is a rather complex blend of smoke, good hops and vegetable, perhaps cauliflower. Intriguing fennel and hop finish. Quite complex and flavorful, but a bit too much of a vegetable quality. It should compliment any meal very well, particularly german food. Sold in a green bottle with no skunkiness.

Pours a transparent mahogany with frothy, well-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet, toasty bready dark caramel malt with a touch of Bavarian hops. Body starts with lightly sweet dark caramel maltiness along with decent bittering hop presence and earthiness toward a thinner finish. A pretty decent dunkel.

Red in colour with a great head and lots of condition. Yeast in the nose; carbonation in this glass. The tongue is sweet and fruity, the finishes smooth Fruity aromas with raisins and figs.

Bottle. Amber color, nice offwhite head. Roatsed malt aroma, some burnt sugar, cocoa and chocolate notes. Malty flavor, roasted, chocolate notes, quite a sharp finish with some hops. Roasted and with some smkoy notes.

This is the best Dunkel I have ever tatsed. I love this beer, but too bad the brewery still insists on exporting the dreaded green bottle. I rarely get to enjoy this un-skunked, but when I do its like heaven. Sweet maltliness almost perfectly balanced by hops. Finishes smooth and eventful.

Bottle. Dark Brown Color with a nice beige head, the aroma is not so strong, but is like toasted malt, the flavor is amazing, its right on the balance, not so sweet and the bitterness on right point! The mouthfeel is some notes of bitterness and fruit.
