Commercial Description:
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with light caramel notes, while the flavor has stronger notes of caramel, still on a sweet background.

Draught. Dark ruby red colour, beige mediumsized head. Some grassy malts in nose, with some weak roasted notes. Flavour caramellish malts with dry roasted, a bit caramellish hints. Aftertaste is caramellish malts. Quite wellbalances.

Bright dark brown. Figs, molasses and brown sugar in the aroma. The body is light, and a bit watery in the finish. Flavours of light molasses, graham crackers and slightly sticky sugariness. Decent balance.

Clear ruby color, creamy off-white head. Rye bread, toasted sugar and grassy hops in the nose. Grassy hoppy slightly caramelly dunkel. Light sour note. Standard dunkel, a bit souless.

Cake dough aroma. Slightly roasted. Full bodied. Malty flavor, chocolate cake. A chocolaty bitter aftertaste. A bit thin for its body, but a lovely dunkel, a classic in its type.

Draught. A halfway decent dunkel i thought. Some light brown sugar and caramel, with a grassy hop edge. Not too sweet or anything, pleasant.

Pours a transparent mahogany with frothy, well-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet, toasty bready dark caramel malt with a touch of Bavarian hops. Body starts with lightly sweet dark caramel maltiness along with decent bittering hop presence and earthiness toward a thinner finish. A pretty decent dunkel.
