GangGreen712 (44), Woodstock Valley, Connecticut, USA Jun 15, 2008 Nice aroma, very simple taste with very slight hint of caramel and nut, though this is very slight. smooth with a bit of bitterness as it warms. Great beer, especially in the summer.
djd07 (414), Houston, Texas, USA Jan 1, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a small off white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is a sweet malt with yeast and caramel and toffee. The taste is a light malt, a bit watery with caramel and toffee. A decent dunkel from Hofbrau. BeerFanDan17 (447), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA Dec 19, 2008 Average dunkel from Hofbrau. On draft from Mr. Dunderbaks. Nice malty and caramel balance--smooth and not too strong. FlacoAlto (2251), Tucson, Arizona, USA Dec 17, 2008 A reasonable pour into my 25cl tulip glass produces a fat-three-finger thick, light tan colored head. The beer is a reddish brown color that shows a brilliantly clear, deep red color that has touches of copper to it when held up to the light. The aroma is nice and malt focused with a mix of toasty malt and caramelized notes. Sweet toffee, a soft note of butterscotch, aromas of toasted crackers, sweet bread crust and sweet raisins aromas can be picked out. The aroma is pretty sweet and seems to be missing a certain richness that should be here, but it is certainly far from objectionable.

Not as sweet as the aroma might have suggested, though there is certainly a thin malt sweetness to this beer. Toasted bread crust flavors as well as whole grain cracker notes play a fairly prominent role here. There is a hint of hop bitterness in the finish, and the beer finishes fairly thin over all. The malt has a weird, almost chemical like note to it some how and there is perhaps a hint of vegetal DMS. The finish of this beer is just somehow objectionable and I can not quite put my finger on it.

This beer could be so much better, it was given to me for free, so I can not really complain, but I certainly will not be drinking this on purpose again. thenick (622), North Bellmore, New York, USA Nov 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours an amber brown with an off-white head. Aroma largely malt, with grain thrown in for good measure. Taste is the same, with a sweet characteristic and the beer remaining smooth and drinkable throughout. Not spectacular, but very very solid. kubeckj (9), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA does not count Oct 29, 2008 A very rich dark brew with many flavors that just messed and a great creamy feel to it, great beer one of my favorites
