Commercial Description:
By tradition, the first barrel of Maibock is tapped in the Hofbräuhaus in the last week of April, in time for the merry month of May. The success story of Munich’s oldest bock beer goes back as far as 1614. With its powerfully aromatic flavour and its alcoholic content of some 7.2% volume, Hofbräu Maibock marks one of the high points in the beer-lover’s calendar!

This beer is what I’ve always aspired to as a home brewer - a deceptive abv% relative to taste, a translucent, but not cloudy, pour (albeit no decent head to speak of) and a malty, sweet taste with just the right amount of carbonation - not quite up there with your standard pilseners, but not as reserved as a porter...a really nice medium. The only drawback, in my opinion, is the price relative to the product...for half the price and 2/3 the taste, you could buy a Shiner Bock or even an Amber Bock (alright, 1/3 the taste) albeit with a little less kick...

Pour is bright lightly clear amber with a thin off white head...smell is lightly toasty with caramel and bread crumbs...taste is sweet with corn and some toasty malt flavor but turns bitter and vegetal very quickly...bitter gross finish...

12 oz bottle from Total Wine in Jacksonville. Pours a nice dark amber/copper color with a touch of a white head. Aroma is malt and a bit of spice. Taste is malty and has a light sweet aftertaste. Not bad, in fact, rather nice to drink.

On tap at Oldsmar Tap House. Pours a transparent copper, with a fluffy billowing white head, and tons of lacing. Sweet malt aroma, cinnamon, spices, bitter acidic hops. Spicy mouthfeel, strong malt-driven body, grainy, yet sweet, after taste. Drinkable for 7.2%, medium-body. Pretty decent.

Draft @ Rustico. Clear cherry amber colored body. Sweet, starchy, light and fresh flavor... some sweet honey flavored malts, some starchy - slightly coarse - texture to the body. Overall very refreshing, well-preserved (fresh tasting), and satisfying. Mildly hopped, festive, vivid, fresh, tasty.

Bought at 6 pack at Norms as soon as this came out. Poured a light orange color in the glass, and the head quickly dissipated. Aroma was very sweet and malty, probably too sweet for my tastes. The flavor was intense, with strong spicy notes backed by an intense alcohol kick at 7.2%ABV. Not exactly what I expected as a beer to welcome the coming of spring, but may be true to the style. Makes me long for the real summer beers like Oberon and even Sam Adams Summer Ale.

(draught at Hofbrau Miami) Pours semi-clear amber with thick long lasting foam and lacing. Brassy smells. Smooth, smooth beer with a clean finish. Earthy, woodsy, with some caramel. Straightforward and good.

Pours a lightly hazy copper amber with a medium light beige head. Smells pretty mild overall. Some definite caramel and sweet malt, but not much else in the nose. The flavor was much more lively, alot of that caramel and sweet malt show in the taste as well. Light hoppiness to it, especially in the finish, which is lightly bitter, but not bad at all. Decent heller bock, somewhat of a surprise.
