Commercial Description:
By tradition, the first barrel of Maibock is tapped in the Hofbräuhaus in the last week of April, in time for the merry month of May. The success story of Munich’s oldest bock beer goes back as far as 1614. With its powerfully aromatic flavour and its alcoholic content of some 7.2% volume, Hofbräu Maibock marks one of the high points in the beer-lover’s calendar!

Very nicem, not so crafty, but nice spicy aroma, and sour taste. Very alcoholic taste and brown ale features.

12oz bottle poured in a lager glass. HMM pours golden and slightly hazy but with no discernible pulp. The nose is light and hard to describe but fresh linen, honey and fruit come to mind. The taste is quite mild and enjoyable. The malt dominates but a faint floral flavor is evident as well. This tastes like a nice session beer but at 7.2% ABV I wouldn’t recommend making an evening of these. The alcohol is non-evident despite its elevated status. The body is medium in weight with little aftertaste. This is a nice "average" beer.

On tap at Bavarian Grill, Plano, TX. Good beer....poured a dark clear, reddish amber with off white head. Aroma was great, all that malty sweetness hitting your nose. Flavor was very good, nice malty and dark roast flavors and seems to have a hint of honey. Spicy on the toung. Would buy again....Need to drink with a smoked braut next time.....

pours a crystal clear reddish copper with a yellowy tan head. aroma of sweet malt, pepper and toasty bread. a faint hint of apple. taste is some green pepper, malt, some corn, very subtle hops, some earthy notes, and some cider. main flavors dissapate fairly quickly, but a nice dry sensation is left in the mouth. nice lacing, and a thin layer of head remains. really can’t taste the alcohol at all. mid-bodied with a smooth and crisp palate. slight metallic flavor. would go nicely in a stein!

Tasted thanks to Greig! Lovely enjoyable Maibock, one of my favourites by HB. Has a great mouthfeel coupled with lovely malty peppery, heathery notes coupled with a touch of smoke.

A very tasty Maibock, full of toasted bread notes, and a hint of smoke. Not as sweet as I remember it, and a great balancing bitterness, though no noticable hop aroma. Far too easy to drink for a 7.2% beer!

An interesting beer. Looks very good in the glass, dark, nearly copper-coloured. It’s strong but not too dry, it’s easy to keep it in mind. A good beer.

Pours a nicely hued red color with a nice head. It has aromas that are dry and semi sweet bread dough and biscuit. It is well rounded, fuller bodied for this style, and offers an aray of biscuit malt, caramel, and slight hop resin. It is creamy, and smooth, and dense. It is a solid heller.
