Commercial Description:
By tradition, the first barrel of Maibock is tapped in the Hofbräuhaus in the last week of April, in time for the merry month of May. The success story of Munich’s oldest bock beer goes back as far as 1614. With its powerfully aromatic flavour and its alcoholic content of some 7.2% volume, Hofbräu Maibock marks one of the high points in the beer-lover’s calendar!

On tap 1/2 liter. Poured light amber with a full white head. The aroma was overwhelmingly honey. The taste was also full of honey but was not too sweet and was quite pleasant.

(Bottle) Pours a clear amber with a medium-sized creamy off-white head. Aroma is sweet (fruitiness, caramel) and somewhat musty. Flavor of sweet caramel and mild hops. Tastes really fresh.

Pours a ruby reddish orange into the glass with a nice white head on it. The aroma is really quite nice and is full of dark fruit aromas along with the sugary smell of sweet malt. The flavor really is true to the aroma of this beer with an exceptional malt backbone that hides the 7.2% very well. This beer is relatively light as it sweeps across the palate but has enough presence to really be enjoyed.

Event: Junedale Beer Klub - April Beer Tasting (Maibocks)
Serving: 12 oz bottles shared by Supa.

Tasting Notes
Aroma: Smells "European/German". There is a balanced German malt and hop character present in the aroma.
Appearance: Clear amber color with a frothy off-white crown and speckled lacing.
Flavor: Toasted malts and light caramel. Mild spicy/noble hops. Well blended and flavors are well integrated.
Palate: Smooth and clean.
Overall: Very enjoyable and easy to drink! It’s difficult to go wrong with an HB beer...

poured a nice copper color with a medium size head. A nice malty aroma with some bread notes and a light caramel note. Flavor was subtly sweet with malty notes, at times seeming one dementional.

Tap @ Mellow Mushroom Brandon, Fl. Pours a clear copper with a one finger white head that lasts leaving good lacing. Aroma is fresh malt and a light note of caramel malt. Taste is the same as aroma with a well balanced bitterness. Medium thin mouthfeel that finishes dry and bitter. Very good.

Low intensity malt aroma with mild candied fruit notes. The body is a bright amber/copper and supports a nice looking, two finger thick, white head that is mostly lasting. Very malty fore, some cramel and faint fruit and grain notes. Very low bitterness. A malt driven experience from start to finish and a tasty one.

Bottle and on tap. Copper amber color, rich malty flavor with hops emerging. Crisp, clean finish. Very flavourful for a lager. I have had this by itself, and at a tasting side be side with Rogue Dead Guy Ale, which is based on a maibock recipe, but fermented with ale yeast instead of lager yeast. Fascinating pairing, as you can really taste and see the difference made by the ale yeast.
