Commercial Description:
By tradition, the first barrel of Maibock is tapped in the Hofbräuhaus in the last week of April, in time for the merry month of May. The success story of Munich’s oldest bock beer goes back as far as 1614. With its powerfully aromatic flavour and its alcoholic content of some 7.2% volume, Hofbräu Maibock marks one of the high points in the beer-lover’s calendar!

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a beautiful, clear amber with a handsome, lightly creamy, off-white head. Soft aroma of malt and caramel. Nice, full body with plenty of malt. Caramel accents and a vaguely alcoholic finish. A pleasant Maibock without the sharp alcohol and bitter, hoppy finish that usually categorizes the style. 290606

Pours clear amber with fluffy off-white head. Aroma is sweet maltyness. Flavor is is spicey malt character with peppery notes. Has a dry, almost toffe like finish. Spicy beer.

Decent dense head of fine bubbles. Redeces to a thin foam sheen. Decent carbonation. Soft aroma of bready malts, some caramel and some spicy hops. Color is a brownish orange. Malty flavor with decent roastyness. Little bit of bitterness at the finish. Dry and pasty. Spices in the flavor also. Strange mouthfeel. Dry and pasty. Alcohol warming at the finish. An ok brew.

Poured a clear amber color with an ok initial head that turned to just a rim around the top of the beer. Lacing was just above average, much better than the head would have led one to believe. The aroma was light caramel and some saaz hops. Flavor was caramel and light dark fruits, the latter unexpected based on the color and style. Nonetheless, they were light and the hops took over in the finish: light grassy saaz tones with a touch of spice to finish. Not a bad maibock at all. Alcohol a little sharp and the breadiness was underplayed (ie. not detected at all). Mouthfeel slightly sharp from the alcohol, but not cloying sweet like others have commented. Cabonation just right to wake up the taste buds. Enjoyable, although not at the top of its class.

On tap at Mayfest - Lincoln Square, Chicago. Pours amber with an off-white head. Malty and slightly sweet with some bitter hops on the finish. Very drinkable.
