| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 22, 2005 Bottled. Clear amber colour. Vivid, bubbly head, which is quite big at first, but diminishes rather quickly to nothing. Flowery, malty aroma. Very malty, pretty sweet taste. Slightly alcoholic. A bit of chocolate and butter in the malty finish. One of the better Maibocks. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Feb 11, 2005 Started off great and then everything went progressively downhill. Looked beautiful in my .5 L glass boot - fizzy, amber, 1" orange head. Smelled sweet, malty and yeasty. The first sip was when things started to unravel - alcohol not well hidden at all. Rich malt, barley-grain taste complimented by the expected wheat notes. Nearing the end of the beer, the alcohol seemed drawn apart and even more intrusive. Last 25% of the beer was sticky and separated; astringent. The sweetness became overbearing. On the bottle, Hofbrau said that this was the first Maibock ever brewed in the world. I’m glad there have been significant improvements to the Maibock category since Hofbrau introduced this concoction. cathcacr (591), Portland, Oregon, USA
