Commercial Description:
By tradition, the first barrel of Maibock is tapped in the Hofbräuhaus in the last week of April, in time for the merry month of May. The success story of Munich’s oldest bock beer goes back as far as 1614. With its powerfully aromatic flavour and its alcoholic content of some 7.2% volume, Hofbräu Maibock marks one of the high points in the beer-lover’s calendar!

(Rating #2293)

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. VA. Pours a clear copper color with a large head. Good head retention but lacing is poor. Aroma is bread with some tart fruit notes. Taste is toasted malts, grassy hops and some light fruits in the finish. Medium bodied,

Bottle. A light sweet aroma, a little bit malty, some bread. Quite nice. The head is small, white and fizzy, fast disappearing. The body is orange-red. The taste is malty, only light bitter, a little bit dull and with a medium duration. Not much carbonation, light to medium body and dry.

(bottle) Clear amber body, medium orange head. Aroma of malt, caramel, slight spice and pine. Soft, sweet caramel malt flavor. Some alcohol in the finish dries it out, some hop bitterness. Light to medium body, oily.

Bottle. It looks quite nice in the glass, with a clear, copper-colored body and a small but firm off-white head. The aroma has prunes and figs as well as some caramel and fresh fruits. It’s sweet on the palate, with some dms and alcohol. Dried fruits, some fresh ones and caramel, and decent bitterness too. Full-bodied and slightly warming. Nice bitter finish. Not my favorite bock, but a decent one, somewhere in between a dunkler and a heller bock. (081206(

A beer from Germany shipped to Canada from New Zealand. Hazy amber. Nice lasting head. Woody caramel nose might be starting to slip off it’s prime. Despite the travel, age and green bottle it has a very big flavour. Hops and a nutty maltiness. A tasty beer that you want to try on tap.
