Crystal malt & pils. Beany, with that sweet tang typical of German stylings. Double decoction process? Mild sweet fruity hops with light grain. Medium body with medium-heavy carbonation. Starts with a medium sweet grain and pilsner malt taste. Soft flowery hops bitterness. Finish is bitter with medium smooth character. Nice quaff, particularly with dinner. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 24, 2007 Fizzy golden orange/yellow body with a small, receding white head. A very thin layer of foam hangs out for a while. The first thing you notice when you open this beer is a huge note of skunk and/or Cannabis. It’s really overpowering as soon as you open the bottle. Putting my nose deeper into the glass confirms the original thoughts, weed, skunky hops, wet grains and sickly sweet malts. I happen to like the smell of weed so that helps. Touch of lemon rind or peel at the very end. Flavor is fortunately not as sweet as the smell would indicate, again big notes of Cannabis and wet grains, plus some sweet malts and hops/citrus. Medium astringency, oily/slick mouthfeel. Bitter finish, then sweet and back to bitter again at the very end, pretty lengthy and inviting another sip. Slightly underrated. malfino (20), pinzano, Italy

Pale golden color and nice hoppy notes on finish, but overall not the best that Munich has to offer. Not a beer that I would refuse in the USA, but given the abundance of amazing beers to be had in Munich, this one was lacking. HBH is derided as a tourist trap and you definitely pay for the atmosphere (singing, chanting, the oompah bands, etc.) than the great beer. The American equivalent of this beer/venue experience is a cold bud at Fenway Park on a summer night – it quenches your thirst, tastes fine and enhances the moment, but the atmosphere overrides the quality of the beer. ante (2951), Stockholm, Sweden
