Commercial Description:
The Munich Beer Festival, or Oktoberfest, is an event of superlatives - it’s the largest popular festival in the world, staging in the beer metropolis of Munich. Millions of visitors from all over the world flock along every year to enjoy its very special atmosphere. For this occasion, Hofbräu brews a rich, full-bodied beer which goes down ideally with traditional Bavarian cuisine. With its deliciously bitter taste and alcoholic content of 6.3% volume, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier is as special as the Beer Festival itself.

Not at all impressed with this so-called "Oktoberfest bier." With the Hofbrau name on the bottle, I expected considerbly more. This beer is nothing short of a slightly skunky pilsner. One can detect a subtble grassy flavor at best. It pours a dingy yellow color, completely inconsistant with the darker amber tints of a true Maerzen. If you are searching for a far superior Maerzen, consider Sam Adams Oktoberfest or Spaten Ur-Maerzen.

Green bottle, freshly arrived in the shop. Straw yellow with slightly skunky aroma. Seems more like helles than an octoberfest. Very light hop aroma, lager sulfury character. I liked the Hacker, Spaten and Paulaner much better.

(Bottle BB 07/08/07; ABV 6.3%) Malty, grass-hoppy and slightly alcohol aroma. Golden colour and average size, white, more or less fully diminishing head with fair lacing. Malty, hoppy (grass), slightly fruity and acidic flavour. Lively carbonated, medium-bodied and slightly alcohol and slightly metallic palate. A reasonable Oktoberfestbier but nothing special! 16/09/06

Bottle: Pours a yellow/gold color with a slight haze. Head is white, but dissipates quickly. Smells a bit grassy with a bit of a metallic front. Taste a little metallic as well, but with a little bit of earth flavor too.

A straw colored gold with soapy foam head. Aroma is similar to a pale lager with malt and grass. Flavor has the same with sourgrass and malt dominating behind some very shy hops. This is maybe the safest Marzen i have ever tasted.

This pours and orangish-gold color and has a feint nose of grains. The flavor is nicely malty. It’s a good representation of fthe style

Yellow-orange gold with a very slight chill haze under frothy dense off-white head. Rather timid nose, with some grassy notes, and very volatile aroma’s from (higher??) alcohols, grain. Quite malty taste, with a marked toasted edge, nearly caramel-y. Grassy notes still there, more malt. Some warm indices, again pointing towards esters. Slight burning, and ending a bit wry, near adstringency. Light to medium bodied, medium dry. Nothing wrong there. But quaffing litre upon litre of this must be the dumbest passtime this side of pidgeon racing.

bottle. Aroma: Slightly sweet toasted malt, slight honey, and a touch of grassiness. Appearance: Dark golden in color and very clear. Head was white, full and creamy. Nice lacing. Flavor: Toasted malt with a little sweetness. Very light grassiness and floral hop flavor. Very clean. Palate: Medium-light bodied. Moderate carbonation. Good clean finish. Overall: A safe representation of the style. Touches all the bases and doesn’t do anything it shouldn’t. Pretty drinkable, if a little a boring.
