Commercial Description:
The Munich Beer Festival, or Oktoberfest, is an event of superlatives - it’s the largest popular festival in the world, staging in the beer metropolis of Munich. Millions of visitors from all over the world flock along every year to enjoy its very special atmosphere. For this occasion, Hofbräu brews a rich, full-bodied beer which goes down ideally with traditional Bavarian cuisine. With its deliciously bitter taste and alcoholic content of 6.3% volume, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier is as special as the Beer Festival itself.

The new style of Oktoberfest to please the american influenced youth of Oktoberfest. Pale color, bland flavor, malty sweet, well carbonated, light head (more liquid beer per glass), very lightly hopped. Sightly warming, light but lingering finish. It’s not a bad beer, for light lagers. But the point is, why? I much prefer the old vienna red old marzens. I had it on draft downtown at the Bodega in La Crosse.

Bottle: Light golden coloured, thin, lasting foamy layer; grainy/malty nose, some traces of fruitiness (citrus) and cookies; slightly sweetish taste, some grainy notes; soft mouthfeel, light bitter aftertaste; medium bodied, well hidden alcohol, not unpleasant....

(bottle) Clear golden colour with a medium foamy white head. Malts accentuated aroma, flavour and taste also with toasted elements, complemented with a soft fruitiness and a soft bitter finish.

This is not a bad beer. It’s smooth, with a slight bitter after taste that does not disappoint. Alot of warmth in this fall beer! I think a 1.9 is a little harsh.

Super clear blondish coloured body with a tiny orange tint and a nice white head. Wierd colour for the style - very light - but still looks acceptable. Aroma of malt, cardboard, nuts, raisins, cherries and some light spices. Medium-bodied; Spicey flavour with nuts and malt most prevalent. Aftertaste hits hard - bitter up front with some sweeter tastes lingering behind. Overall, not a great beer and too bitter & malty for me. Not close enough to the style that I’m used to, but its worth drinking if you appreciate more of a malty, spicery marzen. I sampled this 12 ounce bottle purchased at Total Wine in McLea, Virginia on 01-March-2005.
