Commercial Description:
The Munich Beer Festival, or Oktoberfest, is an event of superlatives - it’s the largest popular festival in the world, staging in the beer metropolis of Munich. Millions of visitors from all over the world flock along every year to enjoy its very special atmosphere. For this occasion, Hofbräu brews a rich, full-bodied beer which goes down ideally with traditional Bavarian cuisine. With its deliciously bitter taste and alcoholic content of 6.3% volume, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier is as special as the Beer Festival itself.

500 ml bottle from the LCBO. 6.3% BB Nov 2nd 2010. poured into my stein straw yellow with a small white head. moderate carbonation retains the head. aroma of fresh pale barley malt. the flavour is quite malty with a touch of hopping at the back to restrain the sweet pale malt body. there is a slight booze bite at the finish as well. crosses the palate tight and clean with atouch of booze. its almost to easy to drink at 6.3% and i could easily get smashed drinking this lager.

500mL bottle from the LCBO. Very cool label. Pours a niec gold colour with a huge white head. The aroma has tons of hay and bready malts, with some minor but good Noble hop presence. Pale Pils malt features well. Flavour is all pale malts and straw up, quite sweet, until the finish when some peppery Noble hops make themselves known and balance out the show. The palate is slightly thicker than your average Germanic lager, and a faint hint of booze is in there too (the abv on my bottle claims 6.3%, not 5.7%). A very nice and refreshing beer, though if you’re looking for a true example of an Oktoberfest this isn’t it, as this is really more of a Heller Bock than anything else. Good, but falls into the unfortunate category of beers that get worse the more I have of it, something is kind of annoying here. Boozy edge should really not be present if it were lagered properly and a sour barley aspect makes itself known after a while. Too bad about the flaws.

500 ml bottle. Light yellow colour, soapy and very thin white head. Simple and mild malty aroma. The flavour is a lot like the aroma, mild, simple, a little grainy, with a hint of hoppiness and alcohol. Easy to drink and just as easy to forget.

Grassy, spicy skunky nose, some fruity notes. Light gold color, medium head. Sweet roll, some decent spicy bitterness. Big carbonation, medium body, bitter sugar finish. Decent beer, might be a little too sweet, could use some more pronounced hops on all levels.

Barely chilled. Like the label. Little hazy, pale looking lager. Excellent head, with droopy lacing. Subdued but present aroma of noble hops, yeast and grain. Body is a little lite, somewhat fizzy but for the style, pretty good. Upfront grassy flavors. The malt and yeast are mainly all that follows. The malts come off as bit more sweet than expected with aroma but still don’t show much. The finish has some grassy hop notes and yeast.Finish also picks up some dry grainy flavors as it warms up a bit. This is a decent Ofest it’s got a clean malt and hop taste, with a good yeast, but there are many I would rather drink. Little dissapointed as I do like me some German lagers.

High white head. Modest fragrance. Deep, slightly sweetish aroma with generous amounts of hops and malt, the sugar emphasizes the body of the beer. Easy drinking, something to drink a lot of.
