Commercial Description:
The Munich Beer Festival, or Oktoberfest, is an event of superlatives - it’s the largest popular festival in the world, staging in the beer metropolis of Munich. Millions of visitors from all over the world flock along every year to enjoy its very special atmosphere. For this occasion, Hofbräu brews a rich, full-bodied beer which goes down ideally with traditional Bavarian cuisine. With its deliciously bitter taste and alcoholic content of 6.3% volume, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier is as special as the Beer Festival itself.

Pours a light coloured body with initial significant foam. Aroma initially a bit repelling, but is normal after the bottle has been open, warmed up, and sampled somewhat. A bit of lace foam sits in the glass. Carbonation is deterimental, and adds to the drying out of the palate by the finish, and beyond in the aftertaste. Some malts, a hint of roast, some decent features. Still, all in all, 500 ml is too much, rarely have I said this about a German beer.

Bottle: Poured a light golden color lager with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of grainy cereal with more dry notes then expected. Taste is also dominated by the cereal malt bill that is not as enchanting as I had expected. Body is thinner then expected with good carbonation. A bit drier and astringent then I was expecting with malt bill not as refreshing as expected.

Bottle [500ml]. Pours a clear gold with a spare diminishing white head. Aroma is vegetal along with light grassy hops, grain and corn. Watery flavour is somewhat sweet, grainy and grassy along with light pale malt and a very light bitter finish. Light bodied, oily mouthfeel. A very boring Oktoberfest, a style I don’t love to begin with, closer to a poor European Lager, I dumped half of it.

Tumbler, cellar temp. Surprisingly pale gold color with suspiciously puffy head. Aroma is mild and balanced, bready. Fetching feel on the palate showing off grapes and pears and apples, banana bread, quenching little bitter hop note of grass and greenery & zest of lemon as a foil to the nicely sweet body. The Germans brew far better quaff than do the Russians!!

5L minikeg at Redlight Redlight. Drank from Das Boot. After 2 liters, I didn’t care what it tasted like. Went down nicely, though. Solid Marzen. No complaints, really. Light and refreshing with a nice grainy flavor. Felt like running through the fields of old Bavaria in my leiderhosen.

500ml Bottle: Pours straw coloured, thin lines of carbonation rising up, pretty decent couple fingers of white head on top. Super skunky aroma ( why am I the only one getting that?), grassy and grainy, harsh malts. Not good. First sip is a decently bitter, biscuity and grainy. Mild sweetness, semi one-dimensional and more reminiscent of a Czech pale lager than a proper Marzen. Bah.

Nice gold with decent foamy white head. Grassy, caramel, and hop aroma. Crisp German hops balanced by barley and malt. Simple, yet intricate flavour. My kind of German beer.

330ml bottle. Very clean and clear pale honey colour with a large white head with big bubbles. Malt and hop aroma with a salty seawater aroma thrown in. Light and dry in the mouth with a mellow smooth briny taste.
