Commercial Description:
The Munich Beer Festival, or Oktoberfest, is an event of superlatives - it’s the largest popular festival in the world, staging in the beer metropolis of Munich. Millions of visitors from all over the world flock along every year to enjoy its very special atmosphere. For this occasion, Hofbräu brews a rich, full-bodied beer which goes down ideally with traditional Bavarian cuisine. With its deliciously bitter taste and alcoholic content of 6.3% volume, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier is as special as the Beer Festival itself.

This is a very tasty oktoberfest, like a really good, full-bodied, hoppy helles. It is bright gold, a little bubbly, with a very large barely off-white head that very slowly shrinks to a permanent thin top, leaving some foamy rings of lace. The aroma is very nice with a full-bodied bread crust quality along with grass, herbs, some butter, a hint of lemon and zesty. The flavour is similar, a creamy butter quality blended with a strong bread body, some grain, hay, west grass, herbs, lemon zest and hint of pear. It’s zesty, has great sweet-bitter balance with a tingly-zesty bitter finish and a light alcoholic spiciness and warmth. It’s wonderful, complex, always interesting, and very full of flavour.

Love the octoberfest. Quality from a quality brewer. Best out of the tap at an Uberstein. This is slightly better than the original. Goog with brats.

A fantastic Oktoberfest beer...very light in color but not in taste. Large lacey long-lasting head, with a lovely barley aroma. Has a nice malty, but not overbearing maerzen taste, balanced perfectly by the noble hops. Be careful to buy this out of the case...where its been in the dark since Munich, as the green glass bottles allow it to get like struck very easily--which may be an issue in these reviews. My favorite Oktoberfest beer--try it to see what Germans really love.

Go you good thing! Mind you, after 9 steins of this stuff in a day at the Munich Beerfest, it sort of lost some if its defining characteristics. Good head, and quite flavoursome.

While I really like the traditional offerings found in the states, this one takes me back to the Oktoberfest grounds in Munich. Dark golden color with a thick creamy head. Aroma of honey, light malt and aniseed. Spiciness in the flavor includes licorice and anise. Flavors of pale malt and honey. Finish is dominated by malt with just enough hops acidity to not make it cloying. Gemutlichkeit!

I’m not sure why this gets such low reviews because it is an excellent example of its kind. Very malty, slightly alchol in flavor with low amount of hops to balance the cereal sweetness. Beautiful aroma pouring an ochre yellow hue you’d expect from a late season Octoberfest.

Big Honey nose, real pale appearance..much paler then any Oktoberfest Ive tried yet, looks like a typical lager. Smooth and satisfying, one of the better Oktoberfest offerings!

On tap at the Hofbrau Festivehall at Die Wiesen. A maas of this appears a little darker than its Spaten or Paulaner counterparts. This was what I had expected to find in that it seems to be a classic marzen, and not a lighter version for the fest. 2 very weird things happened at the Hofbrau tent: a guy selling radishes from a 1950’s style cigarette-girl style box and the German oompah band playing a jazzy version of "Sweet Caroline." This was surprisingly, my favorite Wiesen beer. UPDATE (6-7-5): Had this in the green export bottle at the Huber Haus. It was skunked and it sucked, but this negative experience cannot change my Munich rating.
