Dark-brown body, reddish, not a lovely color. Off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of yeast, cloves, ripe bananas. Mouth is lightish, fizzy zip of carbonation, kind of watery after a while. Very refreshing. Flavor of cloves, wheat, lemon, over-ripe something. Decent accompaniment to my giant pretzel amidst a lengthy bike-ride. Extra emphasis on refreshing. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 5, 2009 500 ml. bottle. Pours a big head, that doesn’ t last much, leaving some lace. Colour is not really black, as the name suggests, is more brown reddish. Aroma of sulphur, yeast, ripe fruits, dates or prunes, clove. Good mouthfeel, with the sulphur flavour, taste of banana, fruits, hints of caramel. If I have to say something bad i tcould be about the not so strong body, but I could have some more of this. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 25, 2009 Bottle. Deeply hazy red brown with a towering cream coloured merangue of a head that shows excellent retention. Pleasant aroma of spicy chocolate and banana fruit. Spicy wheaty palate with banana and light lemony fruit and subtle chocolate. Mildly estery, light but flavourful, really very nice. jimthechap (174), Christchurch, New Zealand
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 23, 2009 A pleasant enough drop. Russet coloured with aromas of cloves and pretzels. A fluffy white head that persisted as the glass was slowly drained. Tasted almost identicle to the many German wheat beers I’ve served and consumed, not a great deal of additional flavour beyond the chocolate banana and cloves. I was a little disappointed in that it lacked greater complexity, but an ideal sunny afternoon beer.
