The appearance is extremely light and golden for the style, with only a hint of caramel maltiness. I asked the server and the bartender a few times if this was really a "strong bock" and they both said "yeah" although no one really seemed to know what they were talking about. The only thing that tasted right about this beer was the alcohol content which was somewhat evident, but overall: no roasty malt, no bitterness, and no "kick", just a souped of helles. What the fuck? To make matters worse was the place where I drank this: Uberstein Wrigleyville in Chicago: a very unauthentic German bar catering to Bud Light and Olde Style guzzling Cubs fans. Should have stayed at Goose Island.

Draught at Old Brick’s Inn, Jyväskylä, 8.7 %. Deep golden color with small head. The aroma and flavor is malty with toffee, alcohol and fruity esters. Bitterness and alcohol in the finish. Too much alcohol and fruitiness, almost like a european strong lager.

Keg (Pøirotti, Helsinki). Clear and golden, looks like it will be sweet sticky and strong. Marzipan on the nose and the tongue. Not enough to fill out the otherwise thin and boring lager taste. Alcohol easily detected too, which spoils it.

(Draught) Golden colored, little white head. Strong bockish aroma with spices and banana, also obvious alcohol there. Medium bodied. Flavor is more alcoholic with fruity and mild bock-spicy tones, esters in aftertaste with some bread and grains. Alcohol still dominating in aftertaste. Basic bock.

Draught. Strong sweet aroma of marispan. Looks like Heineken. Taste alcohol and marsipan. Not that good.

Draught. Golden colour, creamy mediumsized white head, lacing. Strong aroma of raw baking pastry (breadish), sugar and malts. Flavour is strong sweet alcohol, pastryness. Aftertaste is sweet and yeasty. Not too pleasant, might be slightly unclean tap too. 4 2 4 2 8

Re-rate summer 2008. Draught. Deep golden colour with creamy mediumsized white head that leaves some lace. Aroma is bready malts along with some slight sweetness and also hops. Flavour is bready malts, some rather sweet herbal notes as well as a mild hoppyness. Quite warming touch in the finish, otherwise it hides the alcohol very well.
