| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Sep 15, 2007 Bottle... Hazy golden ale with a large, frothy, white head. Great retention. Breadsy, estery aroma with essences of banana, bubblegum and French bread crust. Spicy clove and smoke phenols. Good balance of restrained sweetness, bitterness and acidity. No phenols or esters in the flavor. Light to medium-bodied with fizzy carbonation. Astringent, tangy finish. FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 3, 2007 Pours with a frothy, almost creamy, initially three-finger thick, light tan tinged, off-white colored head. The beer is a hazy, orangish tinged, copper color and it has lots of carbonation bubbles streaming up from the bottom of my tulip glass. Aromas of fresh crushed wheat berries, dusty malt, clove, lemon zest and green apples are all noticeable. Interestingly enough the tart, lemon zest notes become the most noticeable part of the aroma pretty quickly.
Soft and creamy feeling despite a solid carbonation; actually the beer is soft and creamy up front, but the carbonation tends to scrub the palate towards the end. The beer finishes with a tart, almost lemon-like character as well as a lingering phenolic clove character. The clove notes are noticeable up front as well, and somehow they accentuate a note that makes me think of concentrated, sweet plums (though not quite prunes). Touches of apple add to the fruit notes, but the oft times, characteristic banana notes are not found in this beer.
This is a decent example of a Hefe Weizen; it is light and refreshing, yet still full of flavor. I do think that it could be a touch more complex (even on the Hefe Weizen scale of things). Still, as someone who enjoys Hefe Weizen, I am definitely enjoying this tipple; I recommend it if you are of a similar persuasion.

Aroma of mildly sweet wheat with a lot of lemony citrus and a touch of bready yeast. Body starts slightly thinner with some fizzy carbonation, light clove spice and good bready German yeast. Nicely balanced, but could be a little thicker. downender (2592), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England
