My favorite pilsner to date. I usually dont like them either. This beer was so mild and refreshing that it went down in a few minutes. Smooth, complex, and balanced. First rate beer.

I received various craft beers from a beer retailer that promotes a ’kick ass’ world tour of beers every year for the establishments he is responsible for. Sometimes I drink these gifts right away, while at other times i save them for a special occasion. As I was sitting at home on Jan. 1st I decide to check downstairs refrig for a beer. I was surprised to find a bottle of Hofmark Pils that I must have forgotten about. I don’t know old it was, but to my surprise it turned out to be a great beer. I’d rate it right up there with the grandaddy of pilsners, Pilsner Urquell.

Wow! I am not normally don’t go for the lighter brews, but this is really good stuff! Almost no head, touch of lace. Smooth taste with little aftertaste. Color is golden amber. I’m sold!

Hofmark actually brews two pilsner beer, Wurzig Mild, and the one I am reviewing here, Wurzig Herb meaning "dry" or "bitter". This beer is brewed with two row summer barley from Franconia, and is hopped three times with whole flower Hallertau, Tettnag, and Saaz hop varieties. It is double decocted, krausened, and beechwood aged, a practice used by A-B in the brewing of Budweiser. This beechwood aging gives the beer a brilliant clarity. Hofmark Pils pours to a beautiful, bright, pale golden color with a thich and creamy bright white head, and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose is wonderful, with very fresh, herbal and grassy hop aromatics, and a nice underpinning of crisp pilsner malt aroma. The body is soft and round on the tongue, with lots of good, crisp and clean pilsner malt flavors. Hofmark Pils finishes with more crisp maltiness up front, then ends with a zesty, dry, herbal hop bitterness that slightly lingers.

Re-rate: Since I got this from a beer club, it was very fresh. I then ordered more and it was a few months later. This beer degrades a whole lot with age. If you can get this fresh, you don't know what you are missing. However, this is my favorite Pilsner on Earth. I can honestly say that, therefore gving it a damn near perfect rating. I received this from a beer club and sure wish I could get more. Great bite with sweet, sugary flavors and a great hop and malt accent and creamy head. A fuller bodies pils. Kind of sticky to the mouth. Blessed be those Germans! These guys really know how to do things.

Looks like you just beat me to this one Joe. I’ll take the rest of yours if you don’t like them. Excellent German pilsner, brewed close to Czech border. Impressive golden color, although head is short-lived. Nice malt balances out dry hoppy finish. Just in time for summer.

Lovely. Perfect for a hot Aussie summers night. The bitterness was spot on and dry: no doubt. Made Sheaf Stout, which I had just prior, taste ordinary: and anyone know that be hard to do. A special special pilsner style beer...

One of the better pilseners on the market. Clean fresh palate with loads of flavour, nice bitterness.
