Nutty aroma with dabs of chocolate and caramel and maybe a vinous note or two. Full-bodied with a very creamy mouthfeel and laid-back carbonation. Sweet, malty flavor furnishes gobs of caramel, but doesn’t offer much in the way of bitterness or balance. Sweet toffee and caramel finish. Nice lager – very reminiscent of a Scotch ale. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 28, 2009 Pours a transparent dark copper mahogany with a thin coating of off-white head. Aroma of rich sweet dark caramel and some raisins with an underlying bready yeastiness. Starts with good malty fullness and dark caramel sugars with a light noble hop balance and complex fruity notes before a semi-sweet chewy doughy finish. More of a doppelbock than a dunkler bock and pretty enjoyable. JoeMcPhee (5030), Jackson Heights, New York, USA

Some nice toasted caramelly character. There is a bit of nice chewy/toasty sweetness. Lightly raisiny with a kiss fruitiness as well. The malts are slightly minerally but still chewy. Fairly sweet mid-palate but it finishes dryer than I would have imagined. Pretty solid brew. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
