chriso (4420), London, Greater London, England Sep 25, 2003 The third "summer ale" sampled in a session (see also Orkney Northern Light and Butcombe Gold) and the best of the three in my view. The usual pale gold colour. Distinct citrussy character, with a hint of malt and plenty of hoppy bitterness to balance it. I sometimes find this type of beer finishes a little sweet and soft, but this one is bone dry, with plenty of bite and a good dollop of alcohol. Just what is required for a refreshing summer drink. Excellent. Handpump, The Crosse Keys, London EC3, July 2003
MesandSim (4559), Highgate, Greater London, England Oct 1, 2008 A Mes rate: cask at Baker Street ’Sporks.
Cleanish gold with a small but lasting white head. Very fruity aroma. Full of pineapple and grapefruit with hints of vanilla.
Initial hit of English hops in the flavour is really pleasant along with more of the enjoyable pineapple and grapefruit apparent in the aroma. Hints of metal and some fairly strong mineral notes in the finish hold it back a bit but it’s nice enough and very easy to drink. Actually the malts and hops are pretty decent. It’s just spoiled a little by the finish. MiP (6190), Flensburg, Germany Sep 9, 2008 Cask at GBBF08. Almost clear golden colour. Stable white head. Weak fruity aroma. Good malty flavour. Rough hoppiness, but quite nice still. MrAleman (114), guildford, Surrey, England Aug 31, 2008 Enjoyed this good local ale, excellent tasting and better than Summer Lightning which i’ve also tried, nicer overall texture and flavour and a well balanced finish. oh6gdx (6416), Vaasa, Finland Aug 25, 2008 Cask@GBBF2008. Ambery golden colour, not much head. Aroma is caramel malts, rubber, some yeast and very bitter fruity notes. Flavour is candy, fruity hops, nectar and rich sweet wooden notes. wheresthepath (269), Buckinghamshire, England Jul 10, 2008 Deep gold with a minimal white head. A light beer with some hay then a huge hoppy bitterness, rather too bitter to actually be refreshing. However, the beer grows on you as some honey & citrus flavour develops; this leaves a slightly syrupy mouthfeel by the end.
