BMan1113VR (2757), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Jul 11, 2009 On tap at Hollister. Pours with a small white head and a clear burnt yellow body. Aroma is spicy with burnt toast, and earthy hops. Taste is toasted malt, and light european hops. Lively carbonation and a dry mouthfeel. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Jun 18, 2009 Draught at the brewpub. Hazy orange-amber color with a medium white head. The aroma has some lemon, bubble-gum, toasty malt, and earthy and spicy hops. The flavor is dry with a toasty malt base, and lots of spicy and fruity yeast character. The hops are earthy and spicy, with lots of flavor and a moderate bitterness. Medium-light bodied with medium carbonation. Many of Hollister’s belgian ales have been a little strange, but they seem to have nailed this one. Almost like an orval without the funk and with a little more hops.
