SamGamgee (628), Isla Vista, California, USA Oct 8, 2008 Draught at the brewpub. Dark brown with a fine beige head. Spicy yeast aroma, with some fruitiness and slight alcohol. Smooth, malty flavor with lots of caramel, raisin, dates and spice. the alcohol presence is integrated and does well to balance the sweetness. Full bodied, but the sugar does a good job of lightening it enough to be easily drinkable. Pretty solid quad, and it’s a shame that they still serve it too cold and out of a pint glass like the rest of their beers, this would be very nice out of a chalice.
