Malty upfront and then a blast of alcohol follows. Not a bad beer but I can do without the can. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 10/20 | Sep 18, 2003 Strong malty aroma. Decent light brown head which recedes relatively quickly with no trace. Very dark brown but clear. Plenty of roasted malts throughout which is strange for a bock and alcohol is overly apparent in the finish. Not enough complexity perhaps due to thin body, malt and caramel flavours from Vienna and Munich malts are subdued. Sweetness in the finish vanishes quickly but alcohol lingers. Rather thin for a bock. Can. XMB625 (30), USA

Initial taste is tart and slightly smokey with sweetness increasing throughout glass. Molasses aftertaste. Excellent bock entry. haukur (684), Reykjavik, Iceland
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2003 why the hell this gets such a low score is beyond me, a very nice beer, aroma reminds me of Rochefort 8, malty and spicy aroma. Taste is a bit sweet and chocolaty, nice aftertaste! Rastacouere (5564), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 23, 2003 Very malty aroma from this dark brownish beer with a huge white head that fades out fast to a reasonable one-finger height. Nothing is particularly memorable besides the slightly warming feeling of the alcohol kick at middle-mouth.(sweet ordinary caramelic malt) A very decent balance is part of the meeting, but the shadow of a complex beer isn't. jerc (3954), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 10, 2003 Updated: Apr 6, 20082008-04-05. Dark brown body, modest head. Sweet generic malts in both aroma and flavour, does not show as much of the alcohol as it could have. Better than the Maibock and Premium by a large margin, but still just an average brew. Flavour is primarily sweet malt, and hints of sugar. Average palate. 6/3/6/3/12 - 3.0 Can from LCBO, shared with Mabel.
<P>July 2003. Can was not nearly as good as I remember the draft version being, but quite nice. Sweet maltiness, hinting at chocolate at times maybe? A steal at $1.95 (Can.)for a 500 mL can! 5/4/6/2/16 - 3.3
