KingofCastle (202), London, Ontario, Canada Mar 10, 2008 can: What was I expecting form Holsten? Why did I waste my money on this hoping for a great beer? No malty sweetness, or nuttiness or toasty notes, just the sharp fizz of big time carbonation - harsh upfront & bitter on the finish. Did someone add some chestnuts to my Coke? Can I pour it on my old table & refinish it? At least their super cheap pils is drinkable in vast quantities . . . but still thin come to think of it . . . just don’t come down this Holsten road. This is the type of heavy carbo inferior product that makes older guys like my dad go one about how great "draft beer" is: my stomach is growling after 3 sips, yuck! Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 10, 2005 (Can 50 cl) Very dark, almost cola coloured, with a rather small head. Classical potent and full-bodied bock with lols of malt sweetness. Notes of roasted malt and caramel and a subdued bitterness. A solid quality producy from Holsten. 310102 Dalle (1146), Skørping, Denmark Sep 22, 2003 50cL can. Small beige head. Dark red-brown. Sweet and malty (caramel, chocolate). Slightly bitter finish (little liqourice?). Smooth, creamy, full. Have had this beer many times and I love it... VERY cheap also :-) Cartoonkhaki (1149), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Nov 30, 2002 By far the best beer they have ever made. Dark and malty I’ve only had it once. it is sweet but hey it’s for the winter. pivo (2535), Germany Nov 13, 2002 Congratulations, Hoslten - you’ve finally made a good beer! Sweet malt nose, dark caramel color with a leggy head. Spicey (cinnamon), sweet (maybe too sugary) and a light hop character. Pretty good balance, medium body. Surprisingly good! YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany Nov 10, 2002 What a suprise, this brewery made something right - I guess they think it was a misstake. Malty nose, coke like, cinnamon and vanilla too. Brown red with a huge frothy head. Malty and sweet also hoppy - nice balance. Syrupy. Fizzy carbonation. Good and that was out of a can!
