Mes_and_Sim (4360), Highgate, Greater London, England Jun 24, 2008 A Mes rate: Bottle at the Three Crowns, Macclesfield. Good amber colour with a thin off white head. Reasonable bready malt aroma with plenty of caramel and some yeast. The flavour has an initial hit of brown sauce but one my palate had adjusted it fell away. Liquorice, strong caramel and a huge dose of dusky maple syrup. Think American breakfast pancakes and syrup and add length and you know what the finish does. I’m half way between liking it and not. For now I’m settling for like. Certainly one of the better Holts beers. Maria (3975), Thisted, Denmark May 3, 2007 Mahogany with a huge and nice head. The aroma has a lot of toffee and notes of malt. I find both in the flavour too, and it has light sweetness and bitterness. I also find notes of nuts and a hint of licorice. Yet another well balanced beer from this brewer, light notes - but very harmonic!! berkshire_john (1058), Bracknell, Berkshire, England Apr 30, 2007 500ml bottle. Chestnut with a beige head; estery and fruity aroma; rather unbalanced in the mouth, partly stewed strawberry jam, partly caramel; dry bitter finish. Over pastuerised. harrisoni (5129), Ashford, Kent, England Apr 13, 2007 500ml bottle, Booths. Ruby colour beige head. Fruity malt and floral aromatic hop aroma. Rich strawberrry fruit, some caramel/fudge. Malt is very good indeed. Tingly bitterness on finish. Hey, not bad, but would be better on cask. beervis (214), People’s Republic of Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, England Apr 7, 2007 strong preserved fruit aroma, sweet and rich. pours a reddish brown with a lot of suspended floaties, and a good creamy off-white head. Mouth feel light, thin, refreshing and smooth, nice balance of flavours - pleasant roasty malts, woody notes, autumn fruit and orange peel tanginess. Lingering bittersweet finish.
