Bottle : Big chocolate aroma with moderate pomegranate. It pours a dark brown with some orange hilights and a small tan head. The flavor starts with lots of chocolate. Lots of sugary sweetness in the middle with moderate pomegranate juice. There is some light roasted coffee in the finish. Medium bodied with light carbonation. A little too sweet for my preferences. blipp (1641), Newark, New Jersey, USA

Roasted malt aroma, with dark berries, dark chocolate and a hint of smoke. A lot going on in the flavor. Roasted malt and sweeter notes of chocolate and pomegranate give way to smoked malt and tobacco, which lingers in a finish which again recalls hints of sweeter fruits. Strange and original, but I think it works rather well. nbutler11 (741), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Pours black with an amber tint around the edges and a fizzy brown head that quickly dissapates, but maintains some carbonation. Smells of toasted malts, dark cocoa and cherry cough syrup. Builds in flavor with the cherry turning to a sweeter pomengranate taste. Starts dry with a bit of smoke, but finishes a little sticky. This is the MACK! It pours dark with a short lasting off purple head (Probably from pomegranate). The chocolate to me was almost overwhelming tasting very little of the pomegranate. Not a terrible beer, but definitely not one of my favorites. jsquire (2098), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 21, 2009 Very dark beer with a head like a Coke. It poured a dark brown color and then very noisily fizzed away to nothing. Dark roasted grain nose with some chocolate and berry tones. I’m not sure what pomegranites smell like, but it could smell like them. Lots of roasted grains in the flavor with burnt sugar, overly sweetened coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, and a grape/sour cherry flavor that I assume is the pomegranite. It gets almost smokey/ashen as it warms. Very flavorful beer Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA

Pours jet black with a finger of tan head which collapses to a ring clinging to the edge of the snifter and surrounding a thin, shifting island of tiny bubbles atop an oily surface. The nose is a blend of sweet, fruity, roasty and lightly boozy notes: pomegranate, dark roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, a touch of ash and a bit of alcohol which may be more a result of my associating the smell of pomegranates with pomegranate martinis than actual alcohol on the nose. Medium to full-bodied and oily slick with just the finest carbonation and an almost vinous mouthfeel, the palate concludes in a roasted, bitter and somewhat sour finish. The flavor is a blend of coffee, tart/dark fruit, chocolate and roasted malt that concludes in at drying, sour, bitter roasted finish. A tad disjointed, this is a bit of an "odd bird", but I do have to give them credit for venturing outside the proverbial box. blutt59 (2100), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 16, 2009 On tap at the Ye Olde Falconers pub in Fort Lauderdale. Poured a dark black color with a one finger brown head. The aroma was very smoky, with fruity notes present. The flavor tasted smoky, with tobacco, burned malt, roasted malt and some fruit that I couldn’t identify. This was a very interesting beer that quite possibly had too much going on to be very good.
