| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 5, 2009 Appearance: Onyx black body with a thin, thought creamy-looking, light tan head.
Smell: Aroma smelling of espresso and succulent fruit with secondary notes of semisweet chocolate and toffee.
Taste: Dark, roasty maltiness with sweet tastes of chocolate and toffee candy. Moderate sweetness. Underlying fruitiness like a splash of both subtly tart POM Juice and prune liqueur. Tiny bit of aniseed. Very mild hop character and bitterness, leaving the punchy roastiness to counter the sweetness. Still though, this one finishes a bit sweetish and definitely fruity.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Smooth and fruity (without being too fruity) thanks to the addition of health-inducing pomegranate juice. beachbum25 (783), Powellville, Maryland, USA

Cola like aroma. I wasn’t real crazy @ this one...flavor seemed kind of muddled to me, don’t know if it was the pomegranate juice or what, but it lacked that classic coffee/chocolate stout flavor. Had to much carbonation/sweetness as well. Too cola like. Got worse as it warmed, not better like many stouts. I won’t drink this again. sauceyhops (104), carlsbad, California, USA

Nose of roasted malts, smoke, dark fruit, and brown sugar. A little sharp bite of carbonation that smoothes out across the palate. Chocolate and roast with a finish of sweet/sour pomegranate. Great brew. yespr (12020), Copenhagen O, Denmark

Pours black with reddish hues, and a small tan head. Aromas of coffee, toffee, chocolate, roasted malts, and juice. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 22, 2008 Bottle and served in tulip. Pretty much black appearance with some mahagany hues around the edges and little head nor lace, oily legs. The aroma has notes of molasses, pomegrante, chocolate, burnt malt, some coffee and a touch of sweet herbs. The taste starts with a noticeable fruity twang that is almost sour. This is followed by an oily malty profile that hints of chocolate and roasted barley. The finish is mostly flowery and a bit smoky aka charred. The mouth feel is quite oily and soft, a bit too soft IMO. Quite different for sure and hardly what I would call an Imperial Stout, but then most of these Belgian Stouts take on that characteristic. No way I would age this much more... 502Flavors (617), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 21, 2008 Imperial stout or, as the bottle says, Imperial Black Ale with pomegranate juice? 12 oz bottle into pint glass (thanks Daknole!). Black with minimal tan head. The aroma is solid with powerful roasty, coffee, molasses, and anise notes. The flavor is good, but it is a bit overboard on the roastiness for me. It tastes almost like a smoked with the heavy amount of roast. Very bold flavor. Medium body with medium carbonation. GAManiac (1149), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 21, 2008 Bottle poured into a tulip.
Pours dark, dark brown with ruby hints around the edges and with a small tan head that recedes quickly to a ring leaving no lacing. The smell is fairly sweet and with chocolate up front and hints of dark fruits and toasted grains. The taste follows the aroma with sweet chocolate and grains up front before the sweetness of the dark fruits takes over in the middle. The mouthfeel is very, very smooth and slick. This is a decent beer and fairly hard to categorize. Much better than the Special Golden for me.
