I was happy to try this beer, especially because I’m a fan of the Golden Ale. I would recommend this beer to anyone who likes stouts, porters, or dark beers in general. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 19, 2008 The aroma is fairly roasty with chocolate and dark fruit notes and you expect a fairly typical stout experience until you sip...the flavor offers what you expect with a slightly tart fruity twist. It also yields blueberries, chocolate, roasted malt and hints of coffee. It’s just different enough to not quite be your typical stout, but to still offer the things I like in a stout while adding an interesting and uncommon element. I like it. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jul 17, 2008 smell a bit funky, it has both smoke and tartness. the taste is decent and it has its qualities, yet there is something off about it. still its worth a try. nick76 (2656), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/20 | Jul 17, 2008 The aroma is smokey with vinegar, salt water, BBQ, leaves, and coffee. The appearance is dark brown with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma and bad. The palate is thick. I am so confused by this oddest of beers. Pastor (509), Maine, USA

Bottle poured in to a sniffer produced a fingers worth of tan head that goes to a ring of lace. The body on this one is jet black no light coming thru at all
Aromas of this is dominated by roasted malts some fruits as well the Belgian yeast aroma shows as it warms
Flavor is a little bitter from the roasted malts but there is a slight fruity sweetness in the end. In a strange way it kind of reminds me of a sour
Medium mouthfeel not much carbonation on the tongue
The brew kind of grows on you. I could drink a few of these maybe space apart a little. Overall an interesting brew and it has Pomegranate so it must be good for you

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 16, 2008 tasted with the phoenix crew. provided, yet again, by sparky27... holy hell! this is an imperial stout?! pours dark brown with a small tannish head. aroma is ashy, cream, coffee, quite tart and possibly smoky. the flavor is... odd... loads of ash with some coffee, cream and dry, roasty grain. the finish is like biting into a pomegranite seed... a bit earthy and dry. light to medium body with prickly carbonation.
