Holy Mackerel Mack in Black

Pours fairly flat though a few large bubbles do appear, lacing is nil. Was able to rouse up a nice small light brown head but that dropped quickly. Yup, it,s black alright. Faint nose of chocolate and roast with other faint fruity notes. Body is medium, sorta thin for an Impy. Lightly coating on the palate. Soft flavors of roast, coffee, chocolate, light fruitiness and berryish notes, hint of licorice, and somewhat sweet malts. Lightly sweet finish, dark chocolate with a little tang, hmmmm. Sampled at Bockyhorsey’s Bocky Bash on 7-5-08. Deep black pour with a ring of tan head. Smoky aroma of coffee, chocolate, fruit and alcohol. Coffe and chocolate dominate the flavor, with the fruitiness coming through on the finish. A little thin on the palate. Overall very good. My first from Florida! SWEET!

Sampled at Bocky Bash on 7-5-08. Smoke and coffee on the nose for aroma. Black body with tan head. Good roasted coffee flavor with hint of sweet fruits in the background. Good stuff another black beauty tasted that day.

Bottle sampled at the 7/5/08 Bocky Bash locals tasting. Pours an oily black with small tan head. Nose is coffee, smoke, chocolate and alcohol. Taste is much the same with some pomegranate in the finish. Lighter mouth feel.

It’s pretty black. Aroma is chocolatey, lightly fruity, lightly coffeeish. Juicy fruit - too vague to specifically pinpoint as pomegranate - overtop a richly roasty, chocolatey, Bustelo-ish body. Lots of roast bitterness bordering on astringency. The mouthfeel is a bit odd - fairly thin but the malts themselves taste syrupy. Decent effort - good to see Gordash going in a nice assertive direction.

near black pour with a very small tan head. Aroma was coffee, roasted malt, a bit of fruit, and vanilla. Flavor was coffee, roasted malts, tart fruits, dried fruit, and vanilla. Finishes creamy, very mild tartness with the fruit. thanks to oldstylecubsfan for this guy!

12 oz. Opaque with a small, creamy head that lasts. Aroma is espresso with cream and dark chocolate. Flavor is dark chocolate, espresso, wood, bitterish raisin and prune, and slight tart cherry. Medium-heavy body is tingly and dry.

Thanks to mcbackus for this one - pitch black pour with a thin ring of tan lace - the aroma is an interesting mix of tart, earthy pomegranate, roasted malt, chocolate, and very light oak - smooth, creamy mouthfeel - the flavor is much like the aroma - tart, almost sour up front, with earthy fruit skins (cherry, raspberry) - coffee bitterness follows, and then some vanilla sweetness, burnt sugars, tobacco - tartness and a touch of wood in the finish - the alcohol is completely masked - a unique and tasty brew.
