Subdued aromas of milk chocolate and roasted malts. The flavor stands out more with chocolate, coffee, roast, and nut. Medium to full body, creamy texture, and a roasty aftertaste. Smoky aroma of coffee, chocolate, fruit and alcohol. Coffe and chocolate dominate the flavor, with the fruitiness coming through on the finish. A little thin on the palate. Overall very good. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 21, 2009 Bottles courtesy of theisti and daknole. Thanks for the bottles, guys. Pours jet black with a finger of tan head which collapses to a ring clinging to the edge of the snifter and surrounding a thin, shifting island of tiny bubbles atop an oily surface. The nose is a blend of sweet, fruity, roasty and lightly boozy notes: pomegranate, dark roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, a touch of ash and a bit of alcohol which may be more a result of my associating the smell of pomegranates with pomegranate martinis than actual alcohol on the nose. Medium to full-bodied and oily slick with just the finest carbonation and an almost vinous mouthfeel, the palate concludes in a roasted, bitter and somewhat sour finish. The flavor is a blend of coffee, tart/dark fruit, chocolate and roasted malt that concludes in at drying, sour, bitter roasted finish. A tad disjointed, this is a bit of an "odd bird", but I do have to give them credit for venturing outside the proverbial box. ditmier (1110), Boise, Idaho, USA

Nice aroma, dark roasty malts. Nice flavor, just a little thin though in the finish. Still, it’s a tasty brew. alexsdad06 (1102), Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 12, 2008 12 oz. bottle courtesy of daknole. Thanks. Mack pours a very dark brown/black in color with a small tan head. The aroma has the nice roasted characteristics of a good stout with the more unique mild sour/tart presence of berries and pomegranate. The flavor seems to have a bit more going on: roasted malts, chocolate, pomegranate, mild coffee and a hint of bitterness in the finish. The tart fruit is an interesting addition to the style. A little thin for an impy, but a nice beer nonetheless. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 7, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a near black with a small beige head. Nose is chocolate, roast, Belgian yeast. Taste is chocolate, roasted barley, licorice, raisins, some subtle fruitiness sort of a cross between blueberries and pomegranate, hazelnuts and a little tiny bit of smoke. Body is medium, carbonation is moderate. This is quite tasty and better than expected!
