Smelled bitter, with notes of chocolate, coffee, alcohol and smoke. The taste was smoky, chocolate, nicotine, and dirt. Creamy mouthfeel. BeerVirgin72 (778), Pataskala, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 16, 2008 Had on draft at Redlight. It is my very humble oppinion that this beer was served WAY too cold...Beautiful pour in my glass. Dark brown with a nice creamy head. My very first impression was not good...So I let it warm up. It definitely got better. Nice roasted coffee and chocolate taste with just enough of a bitter sweetness added by the pomegranate presence. I would have liked it a bit sweeter, but this was very good. There was a slight "burnt" after taste that kind of was a detractor for me. nbutler11 (765), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 25, 2009 UNDERRATED. Bottle courtesy of mgumby10. Pours black with an amber tint around the edges and a fizzy brown head that quickly dissapates, but maintains some carbonation. Smells of toasted malts, dark cocoa and cherry cough syrup. Builds in flavor with the cherry turning to a sweeter pomengranate taste. Starts dry with a bit of smoke, but finishes a little sticky. This is the MACK! Hank1980 (764), Athens, Georgia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 6, 2009 On tap at Aroma’s. Appearance is very black, with a small tan head. Aroma of sour fruit (must be pomegranate), chocolate, malt. Taste is a fruity, malty, roasty mess. Fruit is a little on the tart side. Finish is tart and a little fruity. Overall, a little too fruity and tart for this stout, though still very interesting. Not something I’d seek out, but I’m glad I tried. RollinHard (761), Fort Worth, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 6, 2008 Thanks to mcbackus for this. Pours a brown to black with a smallish tan head, fading to a ring fairly quicky. Aroma is dark chocolate, coffee, wood, toffee, raisin, and a slight berry aspect. Tastes a bit more tart with a slight berry-ish sensation mixed with dark chocolate, wood, cherry stems, raisins. Slightly sweet, but just interesting. Finishes with a bitter fruity taste and lingering coffee roast. Medium bodied and moderately carbonation, neither viscous nor terribly creamy. Good stout flavors and the fruit is interesting, but as a whole? Eh....it’s fun, but for amusement purposes only. mmmbeer (761), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 13, 2008 Bottle in trade from daknole, thanks! Consumption from a shaker- poured non transparent heavily used motor oil from a tractor trailer black, upper end low carbonation of tiny bubbles. Aroma of coffee, dark bakers chocolate, dark toasted wheat bread, and dark fruit. Hits the mouth with a wide body, malt is roasted heavily just from the first taste, hard coffee taste, mild sweetness on the end. A little out of balance, but still good and drinkable. craftbeerdesign (755), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 17, 2009 bottle poured into a snifter.... this is a nice beer.... unique and very enjoyable, which is a surprise to me coming from this contract brewer. a semi-transparent black pour which enters the glass much darker with a nice big tan head... it eventually settles down to a thin lacing which lasts throughout. some aromas of sweet malts, a touch of chocolate and a bit of yeast. medium body that carries some deeper notes of coffee, chocolate, dark fruit and a sweeter malt character... upon the finish the tart and lovely pomegranate juice comes forward to round off a unique twisted imperial stout. the juice adds a great element to this beer that one does not normally experience in this category... its on the border of being sour but develops into a more robust and layered experience.... very nice.
