Good retention and some decent lacing. Nose of smoke, tobacco leaves, fruit, chocolate and dark malts. Interesting. Flavor is similar, chocolate and smoke up front. I can’t really identify the pomegranate here, all I get is a general fruity note in the aroma and less so in the flavor. Reminds me a bit of Dunedin’s Biere de Cafe, but obviously with much less coffee. Finish is medium length, chocolate and malts, then some fruitiness and more smoky tones. Medium bodied, would have liked a little more heft, but can’t complain at 8%, Overall an interesting, fine effort. BeerFanDan17 (625), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA

Flavors are diverse with the hint of pomegranate evident. Other flavors are malty and roasted. noncaloric (622), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Black pour with a one-finger tan head that fizzles down to a spotty film of lace. Aroma of smoke, anise, and berries. Flavor profile combines sweet and burnt elements perfectly. Begins with maple sugar and molasses, then the backbone is like liquid toast with a berry and licorice jam. Never cloying despite the sweetness. Full body, has a nice buzz of small-bubble effervescence in the mouth. 502Flavors (621), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 21, 2008 Imperial stout or, as the bottle says, Imperial Black Ale with pomegranate juice? 12 oz bottle into pint glass (thanks Daknole!). Black with minimal tan head. The aroma is solid with powerful roasty, coffee, molasses, and anise notes. The flavor is good, but it is a bit overboard on the roastiness for me. It tastes almost like a smoked with the heavy amount of roast. Very bold flavor. Medium body with medium carbonation. AllAboutStout (605), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 16, 2008 Pours a very nice black in color with only a frothy ring of head forming on the pour. Pours viscous and looks nice. Smell is plenty of black roasted malts and a bit of dark fruit. This has a very nice, full and creamy mouthfeel. Very pillowy soft, best thing about this beer. Not sure that I care for the pomegranate juice that much. I know they say there’s not that much in it, but I could taste it and it wasn’t placed well. bdigital (590), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 23, 2008 Bottle: Courtesy of major0429, pours a dark onyx color with no head. Aroma hints at dark malts, dark chocolate, espresso bean, vinous notes and some of the pomegranate...interesting. Medium bodied mouth feel. Flavor was an amalgam of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits along with the pomegranate finish that hits that special spot along the jaw line that makes me pucker. Much different than any other impy that I’ve had...kudos to this brewery for going out on a limb. milljam (584), Norman, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 26, 2009 Aroma is very port-like...with hints of dark fruits, alcohol, chocolate and toffee. Flavor is similar, with the pomegranate coming through in the end. Very unique, and tasty, imp stout. emerica56 (583), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 4, 2008 Pours a dark black with no head at all, nor is there any trace of lacing along the sides of the glass. The nose is extreamly roasty with hints of dark fruit. You can really smell the esters that were formed from the pomegranate juice. The flavor is full of dark roasted malt mixed with dark fruit and a nice bitterness that sticks to your mouth. Overall it has a nice robust flavor with a good amount of carbonation and a great well balanced flavor.
