Aroma is typical--chocolate, coffee. Flavor is not that good, grainy, with a pomegranate fruitiness that really detracts from the flavor.
ReRate--In bottle. Tastes much better. Aroma has pomegranate, lactose, coffee, sucrose, bitter chocolate, slight alcohol, and yeast. Flavor is similar, bittersweet, slightly tangy. Delicious. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 23, 2009 Black color with no head. Strong aroma of chocolate and fruit. More of both of those in the flavor. I wouldn’t say it is distinctly a pomegranate quality, but certainly fruity. Light roasted malt. Boutip (2380), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 30, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Secret Santa: Poured a pitch black color ale with a bubbly dark head with average retention and no lacing. Aroma is somewhat vinous with distinctive pomegranate juice which provides a weird offset to the roasted malt. Taste is also a weird mix between some roasted malt with some notes of pomegranate and no discernable hops. Full body with medium to low carbonation and no distinctive alcohol. A very interesting and unique experiment which I am glad I tried but not necessarily something I would seek out on a regular basis. 1FastSTi (2569), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 21, 2008 2008. Pours to a black body with a thin tan head. The aroma is like a German chocolate cake with a raspberry jam. The flavor has a dry roasted chocolate and German chocolate cake thing. Subtle fruit. The palate is extremely light and thin. Falls off the tongue. Very good but the palate doesn’t fit. StFun (534), Indiana, USA

Thin head, with clinging lacing. Great aroma, full of cocoa, coffee, and cream. Solid yeast and malty backbone on the aroma and flavor. Flavor is rich and dark - coffee, cream, oats, grains, and dark fruit swirl in and out of the palate. Strong coffee flavor up front, with subtle notes of chocolate that come and go. Lots more roastiness in the flavor with just touches of the fruit that I could smell. A very interesting flavor combination. Not too bad. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 18, 2008 Draft. Pours pretty pitch black, with a medium light brown head. Smells of some roasty dark malts, and little bit of dark fruit, although the aroma wasnt very big and bold, but more subtle. The flavor was definitely roasty, with a bit of chocolate malt, and got a touch of pomegranate, although it wasnt prominent in the flavor, but more there for moral support pretty much. Pretty nice palate on it, went down pretty smooth with not much trace of alcohol at all. Definitely better than their first offering, but still didnt blow me away. Very solid though. Black color with a 1-cm thick big-bubbled loose tan head. Sweet aroma with moderate roastiness, slight fruitiness, and some lactose notes. More roasty aroma apparent as it warms a bit. Clean slightly sweet roast flavor, a hint of fruity sweetness, light lingering hop buzz. Well put together. The pomegrante wasn’t real detectable to me.
