unclemike (348), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Jun 27, 2008 Draft. Pours pretty pitch black, with a medium light brown head. Smells of some roasty dark malts, and little bit of dark fruit, although the aroma wasnt very big and bold, but more subtle. The flavor was definitely roasty, with a bit of chocolate malt, and got a touch of pomegranate, although it wasnt prominent in the flavor, but more there for moral support pretty much. Pretty nice palate on it, went down pretty smooth with not much trace of alcohol at all. Definitely better than their first offering, but still didnt blow me away. Very solid though
AgentSteve (779), Livermore, California, USA Sep 5, 2008 Pours attractive deep brown with a dark tan head. The nose is sweet and chocolate malt. The flavor has this influence, along with a cloying sweetness that makes it just odd. emerica56 (458), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Sep 4, 2008 Pours a dark black with no head at all, nor is there any trace of lacing along the sides of the glass. The nose is extreamly roasty with hints of dark fruit. You can really smell the esters that were formed from the pomegranate juice. The flavor is full of dark roasted malt mixed with dark fruit and a nice bitterness that sticks to your mouth. Overall it has a nice robust flavor with a good amount of carbonation and a great well balanced flavor. Swalden_28 (566), McKinney, Texas, USA Sep 2, 2008 Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy.
Pours a Deep black with ruby hue’s, tan head. Aroma of soy sauce. Flavor of chocolate, dark roast, soy sauce, some tangy fruit. Has medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, I am not a fan of this.... Chocolate, fruit, and soy sauce does not work for me. Not a fan. smith4498 (342), Miami, Florida, USA Sep 2, 2008 Pours black with minimal brown head that dissipates quickly. Big chocolate and coffee aromas. Flavor starts out with bitter burnt malts, caramel and molasses and finishes with the sweetness of the pomegranite juice. A very interesting tasting imperial stout. Full body with very minimal carbonation and a soft mouthfeel. PilsnerPeter (1414), Flushing, New York, USA Sep 2, 2008 Bottle: Thin looking pour with wispy tan bubbles for head. Has an odd aroma of roast and candy notes of purple grape and artificial/perfumy fruit hints. Somewhat watery feel for an Imperial Stout. Odd flavors upfront of tart jam/jelly character and grape lollipop. The fruit tartness seems artificial and isn’t harmonious with the late mocha-like roasted malt character. Not very cohesive, but interesting and points for the effort of combining a Stout with Pomegranates.
