DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 6, 2008 23-Jan-08 (Draft: Homer Brewing Co. in Homer, AK) Medium-sweet, chocolaty and toasty with light hop flavor in the background and a hint of sweet spices. Medium-full body with gentle carbonation. The nose seems a bit off in that slight funk and barnyard aromas stand out. Medium-brown color shows a ruddy hue when held to light, but the beer pours with almost no head, starting as a bubbly ring before quickly dissipating. A good tasting dark beer that smells a bit funny, but it definitely tastes better than the sample I had at the GABBF a few days ago.

19-Jan-08 (Draft: 2008 Great Alaskan Beer & Barley Wine Festival) Milk chocolate flavor is nice, but it’s fairly grain and even a bit corny, and as expected for the style, there is minimal sweetness and virtually no hop flavor. Aromas of grainy malts and dry chocolate. Medium body and softly carbonated, but there is a hint of tartness that seems out of place, and overall, the beer makes the palate feel a bit stale. Very dark brown in color with ruddy edges. Tan head settles to a wide ring. jsquire (1904), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Jan 22, 2008 On tap at the ’08 GABBW. Dark beer with a foamy tan head. Smokey grain nose. Sweet caramel, roast grains, chocolate and almost smoke. Easy drinking dunkel.
