DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 6, 2008 23-Jan-08 (Draft: Homer Brewing Co. in Homer, AK) Of the beers I’ve tried from Homer Brewing, which is just about all of them, Odyssey is the one I like the best. It’s very toasty and moderately roasty, and the dusty chocolate and oatmeal are also prominent features. Lots of oatmeal in the aromatic nose, but less chocolate than expected given the flavor. 12% of the grain bill is oatmeal, and the resulting medium-full body gives a nice mouthfeel without being too heavy. Light-medium in carbonation and a dry, dusty finish makes for a smooth drinking beer. Dark-brown in color with a ruddy accent at the edges. Half-inch of tan head settles to a wispy film and wide ring. Overall, a simple, though solid and well-made oatmeal stout. iamsancho16 (99), USA Nov 17, 2006 The Homer Brewing company is one of my favorite local breweries. Almost every single beer it produces is excellent.
Put simply, this is one of the best oatmeal stout’s available anywhere. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Jul 22, 2005 Homer Brewery really needs to work on heads in its beer. This thing had bubbles bigger than my bath-soap that popped before I even got to measure them with my meter stick. Ah well.
This thing didn’t taste like an Oatmeal Stout at all, methinks. It was very malty with only a slight touch of sweetness, and had practically no finish. My notes say "more like a Pale Ale."
As this is my 5th and cetainly final Homer Brewery rating, I must say that if you do find yourself in Homer Alaska somehow, check out the brewery, because its cool, but their merch is waaaaaaay overpriced. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jul 17, 2005 Draft taster at the brewery 7/7/05: Lightly bittered stout with medium body. Big head on a solid midnight beer. Above average stout. jsquire (2087), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Jan 24, 2004 On tap at Humpy's. Black beer with a lasting foam ring around the glass. Sweet malt nose. Light body with a traditional oatmeal feel to it. Sweet malt profile that became a more white sugar sweetness as it warmed. Maple syrup and some carmel coffee notes.
