Commercial Description:
Our prize-winning mead - Gold medal award winner in the Speciality Category at the 2006 International Mead Festival in Boulder, Colorado. A semi sweet mead (approx 20g/l residual sugar) with rooibos, honeybush tea, cinnamon and apple. The herbs provide a smooth structure to the mead with a lingering honey aftertaste. Ideally served at 12-14 degrees Celsius, in a large red wine glass to allow development of the nose. A good stand alone sundowner, a well matched partner to spicy dishes and stir fries, game and poultry and a companion to desserts and coffees.

Rating 1,700! Entered on my 50th birthday! And a new country to boot. Bottle at Bavarian Lodge, Lisle. So why aren’t there more ratings from the Chicago contingent? Sorry if I’m overenthused about this, but this does deliver everything its promised. Still mead with a clear, honey yellow color. Smell of apple wassail and pumpkin pie spice. The taste continues that spiced apple theme, adding cinnamon and bergamont in slippery liquid sunshine. A bit of sour backup just in the middle that makes my eyes roll up a bit. Great dry finish. Get down and try this!

3 oz sample from a bottle. Pours clear gold. The aroma is inviting, with spicy and floral notes. Just a touch of booze. Sweet notes of honey are balanced by lingering spice notes and fresh flowers. I haven’t had many meads, but this one is nice.

The aroma has funky honey and yeast with herbs, spices, and flowers. The appearance is golden with no head. The flavor is like the aroma but somehow has nothing redeeming. The palate is thin. Overall its bad.

cant quite recommend this mead, its has a slight herbal flavor, the spiced are in the initial sip but the tartness of the mead, probably due to the yeast is too overpowering for one to enjoy the suitabilities.

This was also quite delicious. A bit of an herbal astrigency in the nose, and some heat from the alcohol. not as sweet as some of the others, more off dry and bittersweet, but very nice lignering spices throughout, still quite delightful and great with thai food.

Bottle. Poured clear golden color with good legs. Heavy floral, tea and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture. Medium balanced spicy flavor with a medium to heavy sweet spicy finish of moderate to long duration. Complex standout mead.

20070303 750ml bottle. Oh, it’s this. I still have this bottle in the closet and it’s got a good 4oz of mead in it. Sweet, spicy, full bodied, and rich. Like a nice, spicy, herbal tea with herby, floral honey. Medium alcoholic heat. Thanks Jim (I think)!

Bottle that shows 12%ABV at bdigi66’s. Transparent and a clear hue. Nose was honey, sweet, cinammon, some spice notes, and alcohol. Flavor was sweet, honey, cinammon, tart, and finishes dry. Tingly, dry mouthfeel and medium body. Different tasting from other meads that I have rated, better meads to be had IMO, and not one that I liked enough to want to have again.
