I rated this beer higher than others because I found its purpose in my training routine. I prefer a fresh brewed hefa, but that is just too thick for what is needed after a long workout. I stay away from the bitter Coors/Bud/Miller options and find this beer to offer a nice taste without being too light or too bitter or too heavy.

Bland lager aroma that suggests a fairly large alcohol content. However, the nose is not so great. Reminds me of the unrefined aromas of some Russian lagers. Clear pale gold in color with a small white head. Good visible carbonation. I figured this would be a blah beer and it is exactly what I thought it would be. The fact that it is sold in clear glass bottles and marketed in the sunny state of Hawaii is a combination that doesn’t make sense. I expected more out of Pyramid and the turtles deserved better.

Pours very light yellow with a drop of green in it. Head is small and dissipating. Little aroma. Flavor is not as sweet as I thought based on ratings below. Kind of had a chlorine/pool flavor to it with a grainy finish. Avoid.

I didn’t smell much when it was poured. Lightly colored wth a little head. It had a sweet/grainy taste that finished strangely; not sure how to explain the aftertaste.

Extremely light straw colored with a small, white, frothy head. For as bland and unappealing as this brew looks, it has a disturbingly good aroma: sweet, almost honeyish with hints of maple syrup and clover. Straw and barnyardy flavor, raw grains all the way through. Rather sour finish. Rated on Maui, overlooking Kãanapali Beach on one of the first nights of my honeymoon. I’m going against the grain here and giving this a solid rating.

I normally would not have bought a beer that looks this light but the bottle was cool looking (with the turtle) and proceeds are donated. I also figure, hey, I’m on vacation, may as well have a beer with a Hawaiian name. This is a terrible tasting beer. Looks bad and tastes like it looks - bad. Sweetish taste but nothing else special. The bottle will look good in my collection, but that is about it.

Look at this beer. Does it look good? No. Well that's about how it smells and tastes, too. You know, about the only thing this beer's going for it is that Honu Beer will donate some proceeds to the World Turtle Trust, so out of sympathy for the poor sea turtles [honus] somebuddy might buy this beer - perhaps some poor sap like me. But folks, this is not a good beer. It just lacks, like, everything but alcohol, pretty much. It's not good. It looks skunky, smells skunky, tastes skunky.
