MarkBarnes (242), Waterville, New York, USA Apr 30, 2008 Apr. 30, 2008; 12 oz. bottle from a sixer purchased for $7.99 USD in the local grocery store. Hadn’t seen any Hook and Ladder products in Central NY until quite recently. Dark "stouty" brown. Nutty, sweet-malt flavor with a bitter and slightly-metallic hop finish that garners points for interest, if not for outstanding flavor. A flawed, but serviceable session ale.
bigrond (886), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 1, 2008 Got this one in a sampler pack. I was impressed with this beer. The color and falvor was what I’d expect from a brown ale. Sweet and easy to drink. dkachur (1055), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Dec 1, 2008 12 ounce bottle from a sampler. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a small head, low head retention and not much lacing. Somewhat fruity aroma with roasted malt characteristics. Taste is nutty roasted malts with a slightly fruity finish. Medium bodied. Not bad. sward84 (18), Burke, Virginia, USA Nov 30, 2008 Very good.....rich roasted malt flavor...smooth finish. Won the 2008 Washington Post Beer Madness Championship, which is a big deal considering that breweries like Magic Hat, Dogfish Head, and Brooklyn Brewery were all in the race. esjaygee (918), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Nov 29, 2008 Brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of nuts and caramel. Taste of nuts, caramel and light toasted malt. A bit thin and watery. Nice that they donate proceeds on this one. Palidor19 (1381), Brandon, Florida, USA Nov 20, 2008 Kinda thin, has real taste of toasted malts, slightly hoppy, some caramel, watery texture, works well for session
