Commercial Description:
Cask, Special;
Banbury 400 marks King James I granting the Town of Banbury a charter which allowed it to govern itself. The positions of Mayor and Town Clerk were created in 1608 together with the right to have a gaol and the power to punish drunkards. The limited edition 4.7 per cent ABV beer is brewed with local barley malt and water from the Brewery’s own wells. A pale beer, it has a slightly orange hue and aromas of dark fruit and spicy flavour.

Gravity, Banbury Beer Festival. Yellow-gold, small white ring of bubbles. Grassy, nettle aroma, very spring-like in a restless sort of way. Blackberry and nettle flavor, light malt, clean herbal finish.

Cask conditioned at Banbury Beer Festival 09-05-08 Warm golden in colour, excellent clarity, nice little bubbly white head in short it looks a stunner but after this I felt that things slipped somewhat. I was informed that this is heavily based on the Inspired recipe but that the most notable change being the hops, that was the problem I felt the hops just didn’t work for me I felt that they were too much, taste became a bit soapy, things weren’t combining so well it just wasn’t great and yet it looked lovely, in saying that the aroma and appearance salvaged a decent mark for this beer.

Cask conditioned at Banbury Beer Fest ’08. Orange gold with white head. Touches of sulpher initially which soon dissolve, Perfumed, flowery hop on a sweetish light malt body. Sharp, orange noted finish. It’s ok.
