Commercial Description:
Bottled; Pasteurised.
Pale, delicately fruity and refreshing. Hooky Gold is a beer which marries English tradition with American pizzazz. It is the first of our beers to use an American hop variety, Willamette, grown in Oregon, and having moderate bitterness with a spicy, noble hop aroma.

Bottle from State Line. Pours semi-hazy canary with off-white head. Nose is pale malt, honey, Saazy hops, citrus, and spicy florals. The taste is malty, with some notes of honey, hops, citrus, and a lot of spicy white peppercorny flavor. This one surprised me, and I’d buy it again any day.

Bottle from John’s Marketplace in Portland, OR. Lightly hazy peachy gold color with a decent white head. Aroma is sort of peach fruit over light malt. Flavor suggests peach. Body is near medium over slight carbonation. There’s a green tea note. As time passes it’s still peach to me, but the bitter builds. Each sip has a great nose and a marvelous taste. It is somewhat spicey. Spiced peach. Love that.

kinda of off flavor, the taste seems like an unpleasant bitter that doesn’t work too well.

The aroma is grassy with malt and cedar. The appearance is pale gold with a large head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall it’s pretty good.

bottle: Typical English beer in ale vein: big hops, bitter tasting, spicy. This is a bitter tasting beer which i didn’t mind given some other flavours going on and these dry ales can be refreshing in the hot summer. Reminds me of St. Peter’s Golden Ale which was also almost harsh. Give me a bitter any day with more balance in the malts. A solid beer, but you have to appreciate this style to really enjoy this one. Still love the spiriti of low alcohol beers, really light & the perfect bev for lunch or dinner.
