Hard to fault. Beautiful reddy head with a spicy head. Spice and plummy with a nice balanced depth and grip. Excellent.

(500ml bottle) First of all, I love the bottle this comes in. It seems almost regal in a way. Pours dark amber with a white head that lasted. Smell is of fresh red fruit and malt, quite lively smelling. Tastes subtle yet recognisable sweet fruit with a malty backbone. Not overly hoppy although a little bitterness creeps in towards the end. Had a fairly rich flavour and alcohol taste for it’s ABV, and a prickly carbonation. A pretty solid drinkable bitter.

[500ml bottle from Asda, High Wycombe] Pours deep amber with medium beige head. Faint but prickly carbonation. Big, sweet malt aroma. Taste also of rich, sweet malt, with some wood, caramel and toffee. Unfortunately metallics from the pasteurisation come through at times, although not as badly as in some beers. Finish is a bit sweet and sticky for my liking. The bottle is OK, but I would like to try the cask version.

16.9oz bottle-pours a light tan head and amber color. Aroma is somewhat sweet medium malt-caramel, secondary herbal/spice/floral hops. Taste is somewhat sweet medium malt-caramel, secondary copper/spice/floral hops. Occasional. Thanks jwc215 for sharing this.

Bottle from Waitrose. No major complaints here, despite being pasteurised. Bright copper/amber colour with a thin white head. Surprisingly hoppy aroma - slightly resinous and flowery - with caramel and plummy fruit. Flavour falls away a bit, concetrating on fruity malt, decoming dry and reasonably bitter on the finish. Solid but unexciting. The cask is better.

Pours a nice shade of amber with a modest head... Sweet malty aroma, subtle fruitiness... Slightly fruity taste with sweet malts... Decent offering, a bit overpriced in the US....

Bottle from Tesco. Dark red/amber with white head. Fruity malty aroma with hops noticeable at the edges. Caramel fruity taste with a good dry, bitter finish. Well balanced and a very enjoyable drink.
