| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 7, 2005 I like most things about Old Hooky, including the label, the name and the delightful corner of England where it’s made. Hook Norton is a great beer place to visit. The colour is attractive, as is the white head. Excellent balance between the initial sweet, caramel flavour and the solid bitter finish. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 13, 2006 Dark brown colored, little light brown head. Aroma has obvious black currant with licorice, sweetness and chocolate. Interesting and not very usual aroma for ESB. Medium bodied. Flavor is strongly fruity with licorice and some sourness, aftertaste lasts with fruits, currant and bitterness. rauchbier (3004), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 7, 2003 Bottled. Bronze colour, good but shortlived head, moderate prickle of fine condition. Complex and chewy aromas (if that’s possible) of sweet caramel, toffee and peppery hop. Toffee and burnt sugar with a tingle of hop in the mouth and a faint roastiness saved itself for the finish, mingling well with the toffee and caramel.

Lightly mineral quality to the palate. I enjoyed the flavor to this, the warm caramel flavor paired nicely with the fruity finish.
