Clear amber color, small tan head. Minerally metallic aroma with some toffee in it. Malty, licorice flavors, salty-hoppy finish. Mouthfeel slightly thin for an ESB. A bit similar to some Fullers’ products.

Sep 7, 2004 (on bottle)The word "old" is important; this beer is very matured and I like that. Gode/deep brown in color and both sent and taste is kind of square, hard ans young, although of the name. Very strong lash of wood and barreloil in the finish. Oh yeh, as Dalle says, pine in there too.

Nov 29, 2006 Bottle. Pours golden amber with a off-white/yellow head. Dryish hoppy aroma with sweetish malty notes. Sweetish malty flavour with notes of hops. Fruity notes develops as it warms. Bitter finish with a sourish touch and dry notes. Slight notes of apple. A bit thin. Slightly oily palate. 30-11-06.

Nov 23, 2005 (Bottle 50 cl) Very pretty, clear amber with a dense, lasting head. Lovely fresh floral aroma. Rather light with some nutty notes. Not overly bitter - the hops add mostly aroma. Very classical bitter. 060601

Tobacco, marzipan and manure in what I can only describe as an unusual aroma. Good looking redish amber appearance but with poor head retention. Creamy, slightly effervescent(sp?) flavour with some enjoyable fruit notes plus some slight liquorice and coconut. A solid English beer. Still not sure about that aroma though!

Jul 25, 2009 bottle from Waitrose Sidmouth. Clear chestnut/amber colour with a mid-sized off-white head. Malty, slightyl fruity with a hoppy touch. Old Hooky reminded me of a German Dunkel.

Jan 9, 2008 Bottle at home. This is a bitter beer with a lot of different flavors. A very English bitter. Watery and a bit fruity.

Aug 10, 2007 Bottle. Reddish brown with a slight off-white head. Aroma of caramel and dried fruit. Flavour was malty with some more fruit and a bitter finish. Good.
